So does this mean that the site was at 10,000,000 and is now at 6,000,000?

Ranks front page or multiple front page on just about every imaginable search phrase associated with the industry in all of the members cities. Far too numerous to list.

I hate to burst bubbles but Alexa ranking is not really all that accurate. Here is a quote from their site.

The traffic data are based on the set of toolbars that use Alexa data, which may not be a representative sample of the global Internet population. To the extent that our sample of users differs from the set of all Internet users, our traffic estimates may over- or under-estimate the actual traffic to any particular site.

In some cases traffic data may also be adversely affected by our "site" definitions. With tens of millions of hosts on the Internet, our automated procedures for determining which hosts are serving the "same" content may be incorrect and/or out-of-date. Similarly, the determinations of domains and home pages may not always be accurate.

Sites with relatively low traffic will not be accurately ranked by Alexa. Alexa's data comes from a large sample of several million Alexa Toolbar users and other traffic data sources; however, the size of the Web and concentration of users on the most popular sites make it difficult to accurately determine the ranking of sites with fewer than 1,000 monthly visitors. Generally, traffic rankings of 100,000 and above should be regarded as not reliable. Conversely, the closer a site gets to #1, the more reliable its traffic ranking becomes.

Don't take my word for it, read for yourself and come up with your own determination. I have sites that are under 1 million ranking on Alexa but their data does not jive with what analytics are telling me. It is more of a best guess on their part based on the data that they collect.

Ok, then what's the best?

There is not really an alternative out there unless you use some sort of analytics to prove your traffic numbers. I was mostly pointing out that the numbers from Alexa are not accurate.

I think those are just disclaimers , I believe it's accurate. Not because I have a heavily traffic site but because traffic was down. Alexa agreed, traffics up. Alexa agrees, I check stats several ways.

I SEO completely different than most. I also have another site that has about 3000 logged in daily. It's ranks higher. Your right about Alexa being confused when sites are housed together. Pwi was on a temp server in Europe with this other site. Alexa shot traffic rank way up. It corrected but took about 3 months. Yes it was false during that time

Still Doing well Cullen
The Alexa Rank for PW.net has not changed much in about a month or 2. It has been hanging around 1.1 to 1.3 million.
I have been waiting for it to crack the 1 mil mark. Goes to show, the closer you get to number 1 the slower the increases are and the more difficult it is.

Alexa Rank is not the top priority, even though to be the most trafficked website in the world for the PW industry is a definite goal. We have got a good member base now and its far more important to improve rankings for each of the 30 sub-domains. Not looking at growing too fast either, because it would become unmanageable. I dont want anybody to find PW.net unsuccessful, that is my commitment to all of the members. If it doesnt work for the members, it doesnt work.

Alexa rank will happen naturally. It will be a milestone to crack that 1 million mark. Then the next milestone is under 500,000 where PWI lives (the benchmark). It's only a matter of time! Hey, but by that time PWI may be living in under 250 000 ville!

I believe that when the forum starts (eventually), traffic will naturally increase substantially, but it will not be unique traffic which a majority of our figures are showing now. PWI has approx. 5K unique visitors a month PW.net has 1K a month. I'm more interested in bridging that gap.
