What type of internet connection are you running? I got a cable modem about six months ago and would now be lost without it.

Cable modems are great. I have had several at home and work. I have installed several on networks in excess of 100 workstations and they are a great way to provide net access to a large number of users - very inexpensively. I use DSL right now because it has proven, to me, to be a little safer at protecting the equipment during power surges - and we have a lot of them here in our part of Florida.

If you have a cable modem and you haven't already done so, you should make sure that you have something that will burnout in a power surge "before" the surge gets to your computer. If you are working on a network, an inexpensive router will do it. If you are working on a single machine that requires that the modem be attached directly to the machine, I would recommend that you look into DSL.

I have had two surges on cable modem machines and lost $1,000's in equipment and data. I have never had the problem with DSL or when I have had a router installed.

I had a cable modem for 1 year and experienced nothing but problems - the downtime probably approached 20%. In addition, when the provider did the install, this screwed up my software and burned up a card.
Pretty much made a decision to install a second (business) line, which allowed us to direct dial, and have a phone free. Therefore economic decision at this point would be to install DSL or cable with only benefit being faster internet access.
Will re-evaluated in a year or two.l

The good thing about DSL is that you can use the internet connection and the phone lines at the same time. For someone who would like to use the internet a lot, but is limited by only having one phone line, this can be a big plus.

DSL and router so wife and I can both log onto the Internet.

Also router acts as fire wall so double duty on top of my Norton Anti-Virus which always runs.

I wouldnt know what to do if I didn't have DSL, I've had it for about 5 months now and love it. And now that I have a real website I take a 50/50 split on my taxes 50% personal and 50% business write off since I use it so much for work.

DSL and router

FiOS

I wish we had FiOS service here in Iowa, but I can live with my 10 Mbit Down and 1 Mbit up cable modem
Edit:
Not to mention that we get espn360 with the cable modem too, and this year that service has really rocked, Get to watch all the college football games on espn's or abc at the same time, and get free espn full court for basketball and watch like 5 games at a time.

At&T 6mb/per sec.. DSL .. Wireless router . with speedbooster and rangemax.. All 8 computers are wireless Including our 3 laptops.. When we move next month I am thinking about getting Cable One Service in benton,ms.. It comes out of Yazoo City and boast 8mb/per sec

Dial up. My internet provider says I have too many trees for wireless and they dont offer high speed this far out in the country.

JMSC , your in Arkansas
I got alot of relatives in Eudora, Helena and Lake Village.. They are my dads folks.. I got a big Italian family...
When I used to live in Greenville , MS as a kid we use to go across the bridge to eudora and lake village... Matter of fact my Uncle Sammy Charles Brocato was mayor of Helena for a while.. It was either Helena or Eudora ..It's been along time since I have seenany of those relatives ( like 25 years or so) But I do remember lake village and eudora well .. Nice towns 25 years ago.. How is business around Arkansas ?

I currently have Clearwire... I like the portability. I have 2 meg service... Yeah it's not dsl but I can watch videos, surf the internet, down load like the rest of the world but I can take my laptop/ modem to Dennys or whatever and be somewhat portable....
This would allow me onsight/ worksite internet access to troubleshoot, order supplies or just check in here...
