Who still Has a Dumb Phone?

could some of you guys explain how the smart phone has paid for itself 10 folds. So the dummies will get one here.

Smart phones are great!!!!

We moved to Iphone primarily because of the iphone app for ServiceM8 and I don't know how I managed to run this thing without it. All the other apps I use are a bonus and I'll mention a few in a sec....but first, about SM8.

We looked at several CMS programs and even trialed some. The ability to manage the workflow on the move was critical and that meant we needed a smartphone, a CMS with smartphone apps and all at an affordable price. There are better CMS options but better usually means $$$. For our needs, SM8 was a nice step and while we could outgrow it someday, for now it's working great. ServiceM8 video

The biggest impact this app has had is when we are out on the road and end up at a job we cannot do. I've had open windows, painters, dogs, etc that prevent us from being able to do the job. Before, I had to print out all the work orders and carry them with me. Then I had go through the all and look for something close, call the owner, get directions, drive to the job. Now I just hit the map button, choose "all jobs", push the nearest pin marker, hit the "call" button, verify we can do the job. If they agree, I hit the navigate to job and it routes it, locates me and I keep the "blue dot on the blue line"

I could write a page on this app...

Square app...We can swipe a credit card right at the job or manually enter any time or anywhere.

Twitter app...Tweeting is a piece of cake, including pic's

Bambuser app....we can live stream a vid, public or private right from the iphone. Demo's of our work no longer cost us a trip to the customers site, we can demo from a paying job.

RadarScope app....Being an old Army pilot, I prefer looking at the current NOAA radar feeds directly without the whistles and bells of a weather website's which take forever to load.

SMS with pic...For out of state owners or people at work, we can SMS before and after pic's, we took with the iphone, get a thankyou and get paid from the Square app with just 5 min's of texting.

All in all.....I'd say we are twice as profitable as without one. This isn't just because of the saved time but because we can provide so much more customer service which has led to more jobs and more referrals.

I have the square app but the scanner tool for the IPhone will not work, I have 2 of them and they don't work.

Anyone have this problem and find a solution?

Thanks.

I still have one. No need for all those apps for me.

I am sorry, but this is one of the funniest posts I have seen in a while. A guy that does web optimization, and still has a dumb phone is, well, dumb.
The biggest problem I have had with a smart phone, or magic phone, as my wife calls it, is battery life. About a month ago I bought a Droid Razr Maxx, and I go through the day, making all the calls and surfing all I need to and still have 60% battery left at the end of the day. That was unheard of with any other phone.
Apps I use:
Maps
Brightest Flashight
Droidin
Facebook
Fill and Sign PDF (really? My phone lets me sign PDF's my computer won't?)
Flightview Free
OfficeSuite
Screenshot (For when people send me stupid or rating text messages)
Zillow

I wish I had better quickbooks access. I can do Logmein but I always worry about security, plus it is a little hard to navigate from my tablet. I also use phones and tablets for before and after pictures, Sending texts to my lead technicians, and technicians, and of course customer contact. All of my customers call my cell phone, because they know that they will get me. It makes it easier for everyone.

the qb App is no good? Get Pro Logmein easier

No the dumb thing would be to have one when I do not need it. If I am on the computer all the time then why pay for the other. Besides. You need a booster at the house to even use a phone and the dumb phones have an antenna jack so I guess, not so dumb after all.

I know you know that 72% of america is viewing sites mobile. If you site is not set up mobile an you say thats not true that because we are avoiding those not mobile.

Then let's chalk it up to a unique circumstance. In my neck of the woods the concept of an antenna booster is foreign, even when camping. I forget that you are not a contractor out in the field, quite often.

Yep you have to be mobile enabled. A lot of the times it you are, you will rank higher in the mobile serps than on your computer. Different databases that they pull from.

You are correct, this is what I get to see every day.

If I go to the top of this.. 97-im-image4-8541.jpg I can get a signal. It is a hell of a lot steeper than it looks.

I agree though, if you are in a business where you need constant contact while on the move then you need a smart phone. Another thing we have to put up with because of the "I want it NOW!" generation of people out there.

Don't be hateful. You gotta remember I can all day without seeing something green

Pat Please get a Smart phone, Stop arguing with us. LOLOLOLOL

I know this because I talk many into using them, then I get a call saying thanks I just made 1000 today selling over my smart phone. These guys won't jump on here because they frankly do not want there comp to know. I get that

My wife still uses my old flip phone. Funny thing is, she is always on my DROID X looking stuff up...
