    Employee Hourly Rates

Our company is set up with a foreman for each job and a technician. If you have the same type set up, what do you pay your guys? I'd like to lessen our turnove,r but also think we are already pretty reasonable on pay.

    Thanks in Advance.

Maybe someone in Maryland could Chime it this one. I'll bet the rates might differ a Bit.

All employees start at $8 an hour and work up from there. Our crew leaders get around $14. Most of the time its not money that makes them happy and stay. Its the feeling of working with a great company.

I start my guys at $11 an hour, with 40 hours guaranteed, with a few caveats, like all the work is done, well, and if they are under 40 hours, they help others out on Friday. Usually everyone is out of the yard 2 or 3 hours early on Fridays. Leads usually get $14 an hour. Wages go up from there.

Foreman gets $18. Other guys get $15. Gauranteed 40 hours. Average 60 to 65 hours a week for about 7 or 8 months a year. One week vac/sic. Two weeks off at christmas. 1% of annual salary for christmas bonus.

I'm in the same ballpark as you guys. Last month was the first time I took myself off the wand so I'm still using the guys from the temp agency. But they are the same guys I've been using for well over a year. I've found a way to pay the guys different scales depending on where they are in the crew.

For example say I'm paying the agency $13/ hr and the guy is getting $9. I can tip them at the end of the week on the sheet over and above their rate. My main worker always gets +$2. So I pay the agency $15 and he gets $11.

The other less experienced guys either get the base rate or something between +$0 and +$2/hr.

This seems like a good workaround for now.

Once I get Chris out from behind the wand I will have no problem paying somebody at least $20-25/hr for his position.

I start my guys at $10/hr. If their not worth that then their not worth having around to start with. That's as far as I've gotten from that point lol. Hard to find good help. My plan for a foreman working for me would earn around $15/hr.

William, those are good rates for employees. Never heard of anyone starting out at $15/hr without any experience.

The two foreman's that work for me make $16/hr and can do most jobs alone, they are dedicated to working harder to make better pay. If the jobs require multiple people we pay regular techs that go with them $12/$13/hr.

I think your pay also has to reflect what they are washing as well. There is a big difference if you send a guy to clean to clean a house exterior to if you send them to clean grease covered piece of heavy equipment. The local "fleet wash" pays $18 an hour to start with benefits to mainly wash semi's and trailers, so me having a guy dealing with heavy equipment grease most of the time won't happen for anything less then $22-25 an hour. Training I could probably get him for $18 an hour, but he won't stick around for long at that rate. Every region will be different when it comes to wages, you have to give enough to keep guys you have trained, but make enough to pay them and yourself.

9.50 start out - then bump to $10 after 30 days - lead guys make anywhere from $11 to $14
Office manager makes a salary based on $10/hr

My guys have unlimted vacation time and that goes a long way with having families.

Thank you everyone for your input. We are currently paying $10 to start for technicians (helpers) and $16 to start for Foreman. However, we bump it up to $18 for Foreman and $12 for techs once they know what they are doing. Goal is to train those technicians into foremen positions. Just wanted to get a few others ideas as we have been hearing a lot lately that we don't pay enough for employees to make any money. Kinda hard to believe when we see these paychecks for 50+ hours a week. In addition, we've been in this business for quite sometime and for some reason seem to attract employees that have "issues" so thought maybe we weren't paying in the right ballpark! Also wanted to mention, there is potential for them to easily have 60 hours per week. Don't mind paying overtime if they are generating money for us but it hurts to pay when they mooch out the clock. We also put them on seasonal unemployment for the winter.

    Thanks again!
    Melissa
