EDDM where Can you get them & Prices

Very Interesting read here about the Down sides, I agree with Some points here for sure Click Here

What’s more important to your business – Expense or Profit?
Take a closer look at EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail)… Can you say “junk mail” at its worst?
The post office would have us believe that you should not send marketing messages to the “right target at the right time”… You should send your message to “Everyone – Every door – Every time”. Let’s look at both sides of the question above.
Expense:
The post office is advertising on TV, (what a waste of taxpayer $), that you can send your mail without a name or address to every door for “as low as $.145 per piece”… (It’s perfect wording – I use it in my cable efforts: You can get digital phone & cable for “as low as $49.95”… but of course there are limitations). And with the EDDM there are many limitations.

In this article the gentleman is talking about how he wants to target only 250 homes. well then eddm isn't for him. nor would i think it would be for someone that is trying to target commercial sidewalks or restaurants. I belive for me, someone that is trying to get a homeowner, any homeowner to read my junk mail, then eddm might work. I like the fact that for x amount of dollars i can send x amount of pieces to any area i choose. with eddm i can opt out the buisnesses if i wanted to but why? they might have something that needs cleaning also.

My postcard is a big 12x8.5 glossy with a thick stock. Its hard to not notice it. Its professionally designed by Keith. People in the advertising business have called me just to compliment the postcard. When I first did my mailing I made the mistake of mailing to towns that were not close together. It caused us to run around in opposite directions. Now we cluster mailings in the same area. I like having 2 or 3 trucks in the same vicinity. I would guess about a 1% response.

see now a 1% response wouldn't be to bad. If i spent $600 to send out 1600 cards that would gross me $6400 ( $400 per household ) minus $600 nets me $5800. not bad

Right now I am using the local paper and that costs me about $24.00 a call. the jobs i am landing are good paying deck jobs so that justifies the cost. Also got a few calls from some flyers. and some calls from craigslist.\

0 calls from the website

been out there hustling and knocking on doors, got some work from that.

couple word of mouth jobs

with all that put together, thats whats been working

Sounds like you have a great card Ed, how long have you been using that card?

Do you get good results everywhere and each time you send it out?

Thanks.

Chris Ive been using the card for about a year. Sometimes I send it out and it blows up. Other times I send it and hear crickets. Im not one of those guys who tracks everything with staistics. But I always get something profitable. Ive been doing alot the past month cuz its been a little slow. I buy 30,000 pieces at a clip so I can really blast em out if I need to.

Ron I pay $3100 for 30,000 pieces. Times $.145 to mail each piece. So to mail all 30,000 pieces costs $4350.00. Total $7250.00 for mailing plus postcards. Not including secretary who helps me bundle and sort, rubberbands, paper for facing slips, fuel and driving time. But I do know that before Eddm I used a letter shop and paid $3400.00 to mail 10,000 pieces with a smaller and less attractive card, and I was only able to choose zip codes. But now I can break down each zip code and weed out the routes I dont want. So I save roughly $2500 with Eddm for every 30,000 pieces shipped with a much better card and a more accurate demographic target.

Thanks for the info Ed.

Have you looked at Gotprint.com to print them for you? They have the best prices I have found out there, I believe Keith uses them mostly when he does work for a lot of us.

I have some questions I would like to talk to you about Ed if you have some time for a call, please let me know if you have some time and a number. Thanks.

I havent tried the eddm yet, but i am going to. all i have done is what i said in my last post, paper, flyer, hustling and craigslist. the newspaper cost me $750.00 gotten about 30 calls, so about $25 a call.closed a bout 50% of those so it cost me about $50 per sold call. so far and i have recieved 8K in work from the paper, 8k divided by 15 call minus $50 per call = $434.00 net per sold call. house washes are averaging $400 and decks are about $1300.00. doesnt sound like much, and it isnt, but if i keep moving and shaking things can only get better.

Just about everyone that has been in the business for at least a few years has heard of gotprint.com

I have heard of companies and design guys that will have gotprint.com and charge more for the printing so you just never know who is really giving you a good deal or not.

I know that Keith at KBK gives you the gotprint pricing and takes care of the printing and proofs for you if you want him to, less for you to worry about.

I have had Keith do all my business cards, brochures and postcards and always has done a great job!

I don't know what the pwra or whatever they are called are doing as for printing but anyone can see the pricing at gotprint.com and see that they beat just about anyone's pricing locally or online by far. I have had great results from gotprint.com each time I have used them.

Sometimes for professional results, you need a professional designer, marketer and then have them printed at a professional shop.
