Window Cleaning Certification. Good idea or not?

I think one big issue is eluding some here - an educated contractor is a better contractor. Now you can get that education many ways and in many places but the UAMCC is making sure there is a standard to the education and that it's verifiable to the consumer. Not just the contractor in front of the customer saying "yeah I know what I'm doing" but a national org behind that contractor saying "yeah he knows what he's doing".

Pretty cool consumers can verify www.hireuamcc.com

I saw 5 years. Maybe I missed it.

For clarification - you can qualify to test for certification without additional training if you have been in business for 5 years or more. If you have been in biz for less than 5 years but more than one you need additional training to be able to qualify. The amount of training has to be 8 hours (the confusion resulted in the amount of hours being listed as 5 not 8 so people we seeing 5 and thinking years not hours for training), You cannot qualify to test if you have been in business for less than one year no matter what.
Of course these standards can be raised by the org.

Dan all our training is third party, no real certifying body does both. As it is now we accept nearly all safety OSHA an other industry related training who are willing to give a completion cert with hours or sign off personally.

The mentor program also can be sufficient as long as the trainer will state they completed x amount if time.

The process of qualifications makes it vary difficult for a phony to pass.

Yes the standard of recertification are increasing as Well.

The process is from what I've seen much better than most programs.

Do the trainers get paid?
And I'm still wondering if there is a minimum requirement within the training session that applies to any event that would qualify an attendee for certification.
And what would one be- "a certified window cleaner" or some more specific designation?

My answers in bold
Do the trainers get paid? Depends on who the trainers are. If you get your training at a school and you paid for it then yes. If it was at an event then it would depend on how the organizer set it up.

And I'm still wondering if there is a minimum requirement within the training session that applies to any event that would qualify an attendee for certification?
If you are looking for a line itemized breakdown you won't get it. As an example my school is 8 hrs and Doug's is a day and a half so both meet the 8 hr requirement. An event that is one day but with breaks and lunch only has 6 hrs of presentations and demos would fall short.

And what would one be- "a certified window cleaner" or some more specific designation? They would be a window cleaner that's certified by the UAMCC. How they choose to promote that would be their own business.

Okay, thanks for the clarifications. I have no more questions at this point.
I'm still not convinced, but maybe some day I will be.

That's the point , no convincing needed.

Everyone is responsible for there own agency

In my mind , my way of thinking, A certification bonded out by a national organization is a great selling point. All a certified contractor has to do is give out the website address to the consumer and let the consumer see for themselves and make the decision as to whether or not to hire that contractor. Most consumers will go with the certified contractor over the contractor who is not certified. Just a little of my opinion gentlemen.

So do you mean that a customer who doesn't choose you because you are certified is stupid. Or am I misunderstanding.

Yeah but mainly contractors, if guys don't get real certification ads value to what we do or is needed to separate yourself from the hacks I really can't force anyone to see this.

I understand in this industry there's a lot of fake mis-leading crap.

What the Uamcc has created is real an there are guys working hard to make it happen.

Perfect example is our roof bulletin. Education to consumer is key, this piece is used by our members to separate themselves from the pack.

Like anything new in the world just takes time to work.

I can show you also how it can back fire on someone doing it for pure profiteering. I talked with a couple roof cleaners in FL. They ran into customers that wanted to make sure they had no affiliation with the group. As these certified cleaners did not take the qualifying an standards serious. They actually did the reverse on the market an folks have been staying away this logo.

So yeah it's on both sides of the fence. Stupid people will exist to have not perceived value. Most hacks don't want to belong to a group because they get complaints. Trust me as president of the Uamcc consumers care, we get calls verifying people are actually members along with people using the logo who have been reported to agency's for poor service who are not members but crooks stealing national recognition.

Dan you can perceive your own thoughts an opinion that's what's great about this bbs. Unlike most
