Free Demo Advice Needed

I have read almost every post on this site in regards to performing free demos to generate new biz. I still have a couple questions I couldn't find answers to...

#1. Which of the following ways have you had the most success in closing deals on demos?

A) Show up with rig, find decision maker, give the demo on the spot

B) Show up without rig, make appt w decision maker, come back at set time w rig for demo

#2. When picking the area to clean for the demo which do you prefer?

A) Most heavily soiled area near entrance/s

B) Not as heavily soiled area in a less noticable location

This is assuming that you will get the job, have to come back later to perform the work and there would be an obvious cleaner stripe until then.

I know alot of you have been using this tactic for many many years to secure new biz so ANY advice, tips, and tricks will be greatly appreciated!

Don't just show up .... call first. You need to be respectful of your time as well as the managers. I don't do a live demo I show them a video on the Ipad.

I differ with you here, my time my service is more important than anything they are doing.

Not to mention that's a Forbes 500 top ten sales mistake made. Thinking there time is more important that yours.

DJ maybe you didn't read that chapter?

I've cold called 1000's of places.

Here's how I would do my demos , set up a few by phone in a certain area. Yes you can get them set up by phone. This will still not stop me from walking in on anything that's around them. Especially if the Demo go well with let's say Gm A, I might ask him if he knows Gm B across the parking lot at that other location. Most likely he does, now I have a first name and maybe some info. Like they both use the same bad pressure washer I just took away from this guy. Now Gm A will have a cleaner restaurant , do you Gm B want to be left behind. Left with no customers because your using someone who can't clean? Or would you to like us to service your location when we do Gm A get his clean.

Go into to these places call them be ready to give a live Demo on the spot. Have the price and agreement ready.

You will sell and they will buy.

Thanks everyone for their input!

Ron, that is exactly the type of information I was looking for and a fantastic point asking if they know the other GM's in the area. I knew you would have some guidance for us. I have been paying a sales guy to cold call & pound the pavement door to door. We have had some success getting accounts but have yet to use the live demo tactic. Your advice on setting a couple demo appts and then hitting the surrounding businesses for an on the spot demo is a brilliant idea and guides me in the right direction.

PWI rocks!!

Back in the day I did just what Ron did to get accounts. No one is more important than anyone else, I knew alot of guys that were scared to go in and ask for the GM. You are there to help them look good, and there is nothing better than firing up that heater and running your surface cleaner across the receiving area back door area where it is good and dirty. A stencil demo serves the same purpose as well.

Thanks Nick!

I just checked out the cleaningforhereos website in your signature. How has that worked out for you? That sounds like something I might be down to do. I have been looking at ways to offer our services to charity during down time. I have been pondering doing charity work for churches but helping out a Vet is a cause I feel much better about.
