Surface Cleaner question

I am looking at purchasing a GP 20" surface cleaner, used. The specs say 4500 psi, 5.5 gpm, 260 degrees.
My pump is 4000/7gpm. Is it OK to change out to two 3.5 nozzles? That will make a total of 7-0 orifice, correct? Sorry for the newbie question..

You are correct on the math.

I would seriously save or spend more money and get a Whisper Wash Classic, Steel Eagle, or Mosmatic surface cleaner.

Search the threads for problems guys have had with that surface cleaner's swivel, it is just not heavy duty or industrial quality.

I know a guy that bought 2 of those and did not get 2 hours out of each one of them.

The better quality machines will let you rebuild the swivels, not make you buy brand new low-quality swivels.

Good luck.

I have heard great things about Whisper Wash, but if you want a decent surface cleaner on the lower cost end, you might want to look at the BE surface cleaners. I have one of their 20" floaters with the greaseable spindle. I bought it used about 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. And they are only about $350 brand new. Russ Johnson sells them.

U could also go up to 24 or 28 inch with that flow if you wanted. And by the way, I agree with the sentiment that GP hammerheads aren't high quality. Our swivel hasn't gone out but we just decided to pick up a used Landa Water Jet for 320 instead of dropping less than 100 replacing a bent spray bar on the GP, it just hasn't cleaning that well from day one. They are nice and light though.

We have steel eagle surface cleaner with mosmatic conversion kit, and several of the recovery mosmatic surface cleaners they all do. Great job cleaning

GP stopped making there surface cleaners with the greaseable spindles. Don't buy one they suck.

Art, This place in West Palm Beach sells replacement swivels with the grease fitting. I know because I replaced mine 2 weeks ago ($160 later). I have come to the conclusion that these are good for homeowners to clean their driveway and concrete patio once a year. It will be the last time I put money into it though. If I can get 4 seasons out of a Whisper Wash Classic, I'm sold.

I have had my classic for at least 7 years now and have had the swivel rebuilt several times, mostly due to lack of use (very hard water here, salt air, high humidity, etc....) and that made the bearings go bad. I had the swivel rebuilt after I rebuilt it but it kept on not lasting a long time.

I went to the Tampa round table a few years ago and had a local company there rebuild the swivel and they used a different bearing and the factory seal kit and it has not gone down yet. I had them rebuild another swivel for me and it is the spare so now when I need them rebuilt I will send it to their shop because I know it will last a long time.

I bought one of their new style swivels that when it goes bad you just change out the cartridge in about 10 minutes (they have a youtube video showing how to do this) and the price is not much more than having the old style rebuilt and this way you can change it out in the field and be back up and running in less than 20 minutes or less.

I don't know about the GP, but the BE can still be bought with a greaseable spindle. That's literally all my local distributor sells. I have never used a hammerhead but I can tell you from experience, the BE with the greaseable spindle is a good bang for the buck. In 3 years I have had to have minor things done like replacing the bar a couple times, and replacing seals a few times, but the spindle is still going strong. I don't know if it cleans as fast or works as well as the whisper wash or other brands, because I have never had anything to compare it to. But I would say for I definitely got more than my money's worth. For $350 you can't beat it.
