Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

In 1992 George Herbert Walker Bush lost his bid for re-election to Bill Clinton largely because of two buzz phrases. One he said "No new Taxes" The other Bill said, "It's about the economy stupid"

That last phrase rings in my ears every day! It's about the economy stupid has become in my daily life as "It's about JOBS stupid."

Id like to start a thread here so we can all count up the number of jobs we are creating. Small business employs America and we are small businessmen and women. The only way we can work our way out of this economy is to create jobs!

Look at these facts, Robert Hinderliter has created more jobs in the pressure washing industry than possibly anyone else. Then you have Ron Musgraves the PT Barnum of our industry out there promoting it tirelessly everyday. Guys like Doug Rucker with small training camps that help make sure that hopeful entrepreneurs get some training and business systems to be able to make it through the difficult first year of business. Organizations like the UAMCC and the PWNA who give structure, BMPs and training as well as cast vision and leadership. All of these efforts should be measured in JOBS!

A job is a single position of new responsibility added to a pre-existing business. You starting a pressure washing company does not create a job. When you grow enough to hire a helper that is one job. Hire a salesmen, that is one job. If you have three helpers move in and out of the position that year that was not three jobs. Only one job exists and three people filled it. So example Doug Rucker doesn't create jobs training pressure washing business owners, however if the owner succeeded because of Dougs training and support and then that owner adds an employee and creates a job, shouldn't Doug get credit for that.

Please with PRIDE add to this thread and list the number of JOBS you have created in the last 12 months.

Okay, I will bite, since December of 2012, we have created 42 jobs. All full time positions, with health and medical benefits.

That is great, I'm going to come work with you. lol

It was nothing more then a series of fortunate events.
As for a leader in the industry, that is not something that I seek after, or need for fulfillment.

When your Humble you don't need someone to toot your horn. You are definitely and industry leader Scott.

In the last 12 months I've created two full time jobs, Since I began Spray Wash in 2009 I have created 4 full time jobs, and 4 part time positions, plus the "jobs" that my wife and I hold. I have also added lots of money to other industries via paying for CPAs, payroll services, insurance, etc.

Last summer I had a guy helping me. He didnt make much money but he did tell me that he was able to survive and pay all his back taxes on his house.

With as many people as I employ, the best days are the ones where I find out that someone is buying a house, or a car, or is able to do something that they never dreamed of, because I am paying them something they consider a decent wage. For me, that is the biggest payday.

How about the early days when your employees drove better and Newer Cars because we started out as risks.

Do the 7 jobs I currently hold for my company count? I'm joking...

Last year was the first that we had one guy full time for the full year. The plan this year was to add a second guy for sure, but right now I'm looking for the 2nd and 3rd and could probably use more short term.

????? Many of them started out in decent cars, but I like to see them feel comfortable enough to buy something.

Its never a 1 mans success story show when others are involved. 1 good employee can fill the needed gaps of a decent self employed person. All the willingness to work hard and drive can stay flat without missing pieces. If Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak never met Apple and the Iphone never would have existed or changed the world. Clock punchers make the difference in this world. Without employees a hardworker is just self employed juggler. Mostlikey timing is the key to a persons future success as a business owner. Timing brings you a make or break person who allows breathing room to focus on big better things.
