Build your own water reclaim/recycle system

Im wondering what everyone's thoughts were on building your own water reclaim/recycle system. I am fixing to embark on this journey and wondered if anyone had advice, parts lists, part suggestions, diagrams, whatever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

As part of the rules here, you need to fill out your signature, everyone has to do it and guys will help you a lot when you do, otherwise they don't know if you are their direct competition or not and that will determine if someone will help you sometimes.

There is a lot of great info here on the site, all depends on what you are doing for work.

What type of work are you doing and what kind of recovery system do you want to build?

Since it is you, that is ok. hahahahaha j/k

Looking for another vendor out fit soon or just working on side projects for a while?

Sorry about Chris. I will take a closer look at the signature this evening. The majority of what I do is heavy equipment washing onsite at construction sites. I have a couple accounts where all I do is what sidewalks and driveways for a property management company. I am getting ready to make a few bids with gas stations and banks so I need to get this reclaim system going. Right now I have two 325 gallon leg tanks on my trailer that can act as one or be utilized individually. So I could just do reclaim only and use one tank as a waste tank, but the amount of equipment that I wash may amount to several trips away from job sites to dispose of the water. So I would like to recycle.

Taking the soaps out of the wash water is hard to do or expensive and depending on who you talk to, sometimes both but it can be done but would be better to rig up a separate trailer for this as it will take up more than 1/2 a trailer from what I have seen and you don't want to overload the trailer and bend axles.

Thanks Chris! I was concerned about that soap in the water too. I normally dont use a degreaser till the very last stage of the wash. So my plan was to use one tank for the wash recycle tank so I could do the bulk of the cleaning with it. Then when I spray degreaser, switch to a straight reclaim tank. But if there isnt a way to streamline that, I probably would even try. The last thing I want to do is make it look like it came from garage sale.

i to am planing on building my own but its hard to get a decent answer on this forum, there is alot of info out there on reclaim units but for what you do i would call jerry i think is his name who makes the scirocco units for advise and he will probably point you in the right direction.

If you're looking to hit the road with your wash water, better look into DOT Reg's. I strongly advise researching Local & State Reg's for pressure washing & wash water disposal. And then adjust prices accordingly.

Just make sure you'll have the business to off set the cost of equipment, disposal, and/or other expenses.

Great advice Guy! I have been poking around trying to figure out if there were any regulations for carrying waste water. So far, I havent heard anything too scary. And the heavy equip contractor I do work for is great. Most of the business is there, but I could use more to make me feel more comfortable about getting the equipment. Im hoping that by finally biting the bullet and getting the reclaim/recycle system, I can land more flat work jobs as well. I have always stayed away from trying to get jobs that would require reclaiming. And it really limits me to where I can wash on construction sites. That alone will increase the number of machines I can wash routinely. I guess I could just not reclaim like the other guys around here. But I just cant consciously do it

I really like Jerry's stuff. I have been trying to talk myself into buying one of his systems but for the one I want, I just can pull the trigger on the price. So I was hoping I could save some money building my own.

I bought a Sirroco from Russ at Southside Equipment. Sirroco is a trusted name and choice from a lot of guys here and all over.

It might be expensive but your paying for R & D, design, engineering, parts, time, labor etc.
Im too busy to do all of that. I would rather put the time and energy into my company.

If you plan on washing heavy equipment on wash mats to contain the water before you process it, get the pad that goes under the mat and something to put under the buckets when they lower them so they will not tear through your wash mat.

Re- Build your own water reclaim/recycle system.

They really are not that hard to build and the theory behind water filtration is really not that difficult to master…….
….but before I would jumped in, I would spend the next 12 months reading up on all relating subjects so to help your understanding of what you are getting yourself into ( as I did)

….. then I would spend the next 6 months phoning and talking to as many experts in this field and looking at as many operational rigs as I could( as I did)

….. now you are ready to build your first prototype, and by the time you are half way through your second rebuild of the system, you start to ask why you are spending all your spare time in the shed instead out fishing (as I did)

…..next, you phone someone like Jerry and say “mate can you build me a reclaim system.” (as I did).

Seriously, why would you even contemplate building your own system when you have guys like Jerry who produce quality gear at such reasonable prices?

cheers
Greg.

That is interesting how you can take that sled off your truck, do you lift it off the truck and add the legs to wheel it out from under the truck with a crane or lower the truck after the legs are attached or how do you do this? I don't think I have seen anyone do this before and it is a great idea!

Great video showing the vacuum system and filters.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Like Greg mentions, do some research and in the end, before you spend a dime, make a list of questions to ask the vendor you will be purchasing from if the unit will do exactly what you want it to do as sometimes things are setup a certain way and might not do other tasks without modifying, adding other components or other kinds of changes. The less things you have to change will probably mean more things on the truck or trailer so you can do more different tasks.

Once you and the vendor are on the same page of what you want to do, and most importantly, will the equipment do what you want it to do, that is when I would spend money and then get that rig making you money.

There is a lot of great info here on this site, throughout many years in many different threads if you want to start reading and want to learn a lot more. Unfortunately all the info is not in one thread on that topic as the different topics come up only every so often and then people talk about it or refer to older threads.

Searching under different topics will help you find the other threads, there are some great threads here in the past.
