A little leason learned about painted exterior surfaces! **Caution**

I did a entire home cleaning job yesterday and the main surface I was cleaning was hardiplank and brick that was painted. Well iv been "in the game" as Ron puts it for about 6 months now. When I went to the job I noticed that the surface was painted and I just assumed that it was painted properly, well I applied the wash (soft wash method) and let it dwell and then started to rinse it from the house when I noticed paint, straight up white paint start to run from the siding, along with the dirt and mildew.. So I began to panic and wondering if I applied the wrong chemical and so forth.. So I took a big breath and called the home owner and she explained to me that they recently repainted the home and just painted over the old mold and mildew and rust from a AC drip line. Well iv dabbled in exterior painting a little and know the importance of proper cleaning and prepping in the surfaces. So I explained to the customer what was going on and she gave gave me the go ahead to finish the house (Felt like I dodged a huge bullet).. I could just see my insurance rates going up or me having to repaint the house.. Well in my little panic I decided to call Ron and picked his brain a little about it and the moral of the story is to always do a small test area first and see if the paint will run with your house wash mix and show or tell the customer about it before just diving off into the house exterior.. Inexperience almost cost me alot more then just what I was charging for the house cleaning.. Test test test.. Also get everything in writing.. I did search for this topic but didn't find anything on it so if it is already common knowledge or posted somewhere else just delete it.. Hope this saves someone big money in the future!

Thanks for sharing Jason. I am this will help someone one day. Also good to know not to use Hypochlorite solutions on paint not cured for at least 30 days. It's pigment can turn neon if not yet cured.
