Canvas Awning Job - Is it worth cleaning?

So this morning I went and did a estimate on some maroon canvas awning and sidewalk. I spoke to Doug Rucker yesterday regarding cleaning the awning but wanted to get some other peoples opinion since I took some pictures today. The awning is about 10 years old and to my eyes has NEVER been maintained.. I even noticed a hole in the canvas while walking it today.. So my question is, is this even cleanable and worth my time to even try? Any information and opinions are welcome! I did do a small test area with, 15gal sh 35gal h2O and some detergents and it didn't bleach it, but didn't really cut the blackness..

Well im more on the, is it worth cleaning meaning is it "too" dirty and will the color come back? Or will I ruin it trying to clean a 10 year old canvas awning that was never maintained.. Obviously im going to charge her a pretty penny for it, just want some of yalls opinion as to know if it is even cleanable..

Well anything you do will be an improvement. Most people that let there stuff go this long dont have a clue about preventive maintance and will more than likely expect a a new look if they do decide to break down and pay for your services. Is that a eating place,go inside and look at those hoods see how they look.Yes those will clean up nice.Good Luck

I went and looked at a pool cage / roof job today. There was this interesting little white awning they didnt say anything about. Its got black all over it and quite a bit of green (mold?). I have no idea what to use on the awning or how to clean it. I read on here not to use pressure so I assume that means scrubbing and rinsing.

Theres also some soffit behind the awning. Id like to give them a bid on the awning, soffit, and their pool patio too. I figured I will probably have to clean the patio anyway if Im doing the pool cage. What do you guys think? Im all ears.

My opinion... soffits are part of the house, not the pool enclosure. If they want soffits, sell them on a house wash. Like the job I did Saturday, the HO wasn't interested in the house wash but changed his mind once he saw the clean pool enclosure. That bright white sparkling clean enclosure made the house look 10 times worse... that's a great selling point for me cuz I didn't have to sell the house wash, he sold it to himself.

The contrast between the soffits after the enclosure is clean will practically scream to have the house washed. Even if they say no at first, they get to look at it day after day and they will call back sooner rather than later.

As for the awning (assuming canvas) I don't see how a house wash mix would hurt it any, just don't let it dry.

Thanks for the input Red. I like your strategy with the soffit. lol. I just hope a hw mix will be strong enough to clean that awning.

During the busy months we remind people that we have a $399 minimum fee for any service. You're already an hour in the whole with the sample. Can you get at least $450.00 for the job? Any thing less than that I would say no, it's not worth it.
Im with Ed on this one. I have come to the conclusion that when I ask myself are we going to make money on this most of the time I pass. We have that same minimum in the heat of the season.

1-IMG_0796.jpgcanvasawningwaterrepelent.jpgcanvasvinylsuperawning_2.jpgThis awning look like the one's on your picture 5 and 6. We used a pump up sprayer and applied the Super Awning cleaner and work in with a brush. After letting it dwell for about 20 minutes we rinse off with light pressure then applied another round of cleaner and left for a day. The next day we applied cleaner again let it dwell for about 20 minutes then rinse with a pressure washing with our pressure below 1000 psi and did not get any closer than 24 inches. The next day after letting the awning dry we applied two coats of water repellant. These awning were about 10 years old. Now we service them every year. 1-IMG_0798.jpg
