Filters for your pure water system does it matter?

There has been some drama over systems with closed proprietary filters over refillable cartridges as of late. But does it matter and why would someone make a sealed filter?
To answer the last question first - it's what was asked for. Many cleaners didn't want to take time to buy and store loose carbon or DI media and then refill their own cartridges. They wanted plug and go. So 2 manufacturers on the market designed systems for those cleaners with low entry level prices. Now a guy could get into pure water with a portable RO/DI setup for around $1500.
The first part of the question now comes into play as some have targeted one manufacturer as trying to take advantage of cleaners because of the cost of those filters. But does that matter? Not really. Any good business person knows that with low initial costs often the long term costs will be higher. It would be like buying a car off Craigslist and then expecting it to perform and be as cheap to maintain as a new car. Not very sensible.
So why do some make it a big deal? You have to ask what their motives are, and why they only complain about one of those manufacturers and not the other. Could it be vested interest rather than concern for the cleaner?

Does it matter, Dan? Can you honestly tell me why in that scenario one manufacturer would be targeted and the other not even mentioned although the unmentioned one has smaller filters requiring more frequent changes and more expense?

Which one is more costly Tony?

Us window cleaners need to know whom we're dealing with and the pros and cons.
You may know I use only one of my poles- a Gardiner SLX 35. And I did just order some parts from the US website. I don't have a purification system proper, just di tanks and carbon and sediment filters when I feel like getting them. No big need around here because the TDS is usually 100 or below.
I do like the idea of dealing with as few vendors as possible. There is an issue that I'm hoping will be resolved with the order I just placed with gardinerpoles. I'll find out soon.
If customer service goes downhill with Reach Higher Ground, I would consider ReachIT.
Probably a good way to quantify which is the better system to invest in would be - how much cost for each scenario, apples to apples, over say a five year period. And if it's close, perhaps the convenience of servicing and customer service levels would tip it one way or another.

Some good points there Dan however there is one point I feel can outweigh the possible downsides you bring up. If I'm going to buy from a manufacturer I prefer to deal with one that hasn't engaged in what I would term misleading or even dishonest marketing. That makes what they are selling far less valuable.

How does the average working stiff know who has been misleading or dishonest?

Dan I like you , I think you even like this bbs somewhat because of the freedom.

Truthfully that question ?? Your smarter than this.

Have a good night don't need the drama over here. Don't need myself photo shopped in a campaign either.

Good luck in the future Dan but the rhetoric of who and why is pretty simple. If people choose right from wrong it's there free agency.

Frankly I'm sick of it, lets just help folks.

You got me, Ron :)
Reading me like a preschool book.
At least some of the conspiracy theorists here just spit it out so we can make the real comparisons.
I was really just trying to get Tony E. to come right out and say what companies he has in mind. It's a waste of time to guess.

Is anyone of it really Mean anything at the end of day, I'm just to the point who cares. I Agree lets just spell it out, put up or shut up.

We all have better things in our lives than to concern ourselves with Anyones Business. Those who do things the wrong way are caught eventually. Most forget in about three days and everyone rejoices like nothing had ever happened.

Tony Should also just leave the Boys along and move forward with his own positive stuff.

Thanks Dan for being here, your a character, but I still like you.

Just for you Dan so you don't have to "guess". Perry attacks RHG for having proprietary filters but IPC has them in the Hydrotube as well. But since IPC make the Wash It for Perry I guess it would be biting the hand that feeds him to go after them as he has RHG.

The reality is when a Competitor has either and inferior product or short on Dollars these days the web hits get him sales that he would have never reached. This is the Game people play when they are on short money.

Sorta like in the day when Fats Ran around the pool room stirring up a game when everyone knew he was flat broke, someone would jump up and loose to him sometimes just to shut him up. Worked for Fats, works for these folks.

Stop being a part of it

My uncle was a pool shark and had beat Minnesota fats a lot of times back in the day, he had some pictures of them together and with fats handing over some cash also. hahahahaha He was a great guy and had taught a lot of people around here how to play pool, wish he was still here.

I hear what you are saying about the filters.
