I wont be a LOWBALLER

You know I have had that business name for more years than most of the people that use it derogatory have been in business. All my customers love the name never had anyone dislike it. So it doesn't bother me at all, I will buy the high and mightys equipment when they cant make their payments because they wont work for under 200 an hour.

Good ole George

I think it a pretty cool name myself. I wont use the term again though, I saw your pics on the Disney job. Looks good.

Solidarity Brother. I have been accused of being a low baller before, along with a few other false things. Shoot, I have even been accused of being nearly bankrupt, just because I said I wasn't a very good detailer and changed direction. Nothing could be further from the truth. I guess everyone has their own standard of success. Funny thing is, I would happily compare my 1040 for any of the past 15 years with anyone with no qualms about them having a higher net profit or net income.

Scott, if you can get by without an Obama loan I heard you can get rates in California as low as 2.75 percent.

Oops, I forgot, you just paid cash for your house.

The same source said they were looking to take on more loans for more property. Maybe you could loan them some more money at better rates so they could pay their subcontractors more than 25% on those environmentally sensitive jobs that require such high charges to the customer.

I am risk adverse, and won't lend to people that could put me in a precarious position. Besides, I like the returns I get relying on my investment strategies, and funding someone's rentals isn't one of them.

But what if it's a DOCTOR?

Most Doctors I know can't admit that they don't know everything. Investments are likely something that they would not have expertise in.

I love the ones that want a " cash " price. If you don't want an invoice, your not getting my inspection report nor a sticker. Cash, Check, its all the same.

Laugh and tell them that was my cash price.

I also like this one if they ask if you can do any better on the price...answer: sure I could but I was trying to keep it as low as possible for you.

I got both of those from people here. But can't remember who.

I like when they say "What is your best price" and I tell them that it would be double or triple the amount that I just told them but that is the best price for me, not for them and then I laugh a little bit so they understand that I am just kidding with them.

I have not had anyone ask me what my "cash price" is but now I have some good things to say if they do.

It is funny and interesting what is said on the forums these days, people just begging for attention so they will makeup just about anything to say as they are having bad attention withdrawls due to certain changes that they just cannot stand. It is really funny. hahahahahahaha

Good ones. I know where my profit margin is and if they cant reach it I just leave a card and say if you need me in the future please call. This worked out, I just picked up a local Bar and Grill that called me in but hired some one else, ( who didn't show up ). I priced him higher on the first cleaning because he is 8 months over due. I told them once they are cleaned and we start a quarterly cleaning program the price will come down. It worked out well. I'm not new anymore. If I win every bid my prices are too low to begin with.

When asked if that's your best price tell them no. I should actually be higher. That would be better for me.

I guess I am weird. I always price high, especially if I think they are the type to work the price. Then, if I am asked to lower my price, I do. You would be amazed at how often someone will pay a higher price so that they can say they got a deal.

We don't do kec either but that's a whole different ballgame IMO. I mean you're talking "Health & Safety" here. If the job is half tailed or whatever you're talking about a health code violation or the place catching on fire and burning down......How can you put a price on that?

I'd rather be known as a Company that does quality work at a (Slightly) higher price than a company that does pizz poor work at a cheap price.

John, you know what it takes to run your business.........price it the way you think it should, and market it that way.

Your so Right. I just picked up a nursing facility today. I inspected the whole system,I saw that the duct work has not been cleaned in a while. I gave my price and they accepted it. They said the last company was only doing the hood inside, with a spray bottle and a rag.I also did a two story residential, Got some f-13 on some spots and the owner was very happy. he said people have been asking who did the work. I priced him right, I made a profit not just money. Thanks to everyone. Piss on the low ballers.
Ill be here tomorrow, they wont. Thanks again everyone. APPLAUSE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

A great thread in 2013
when i started this i was pissed off because i was becoming a lowballer. I learned ( from Here) that if i continued i will work myself right out of business. I felt proud when I turned down a an 845.00 dollar job because the owner said i can have it for 300.0. It still has not been cleaned.

scott, my lady and I started out detailing , I'm good and she's better but there was no money in it for us we picked up a couple of pressure washing gigs and the rest is history. the pricing issue is one i still struggle with but every time i make a bid get a job and turn a profit i gain knowledge and confidence. My uncle has a irrigation business that was extremely successful before the recession and i asked him if he was the cheapest. he laughed and said he was the best. i strive to be competitive and affordable but i won't low ball on purpose. as far as the hood cleaning goes done guys stopped by my day job the other day with a hot water unit and after chatting with then found they were hood cleaners. i can't remember their figures but they struck me as really low a lot less margin than i would be comfortable with.

Up North I was a carpet cleaner, I was known as expensive but good, I still keep in touch with my former customers and net workers. My recommendations are trust worthy. Down south it is a little harder. Im 2 years down here and i have a just over 15k in regular condo work, and the rest I drum up myself. I am confident I will succeed. The hoods are a different beast. here in Florida Everything is laid back and the inspections are so far and in between its a joke. The mom and pops just wont get it clean. One of my customers is 1 1/2 years behind and they have no desire to get the system cleaned. Funny part is that they relocated due to a grease fire. I spoke to ron and he was encouraging me to stick with the chains. I currently have a recommendation by a manager for 15 Publix supermarkets. For Hoods and Pw. (Someone got a free house wash for this one. ). Remember part of the job may be to up sell. Get good references in writing, post them. Keep them in a portfolio. I put on my website ," our references speak for us"
I got a fantastic reference from the local chamber president. That is gold.( in my pocket) try to hook up with a local bank. Branch managers usually have the authority for their own building.Offer a great deal, a deal is not a low ball, Its only temporary.
