I need a critique from Tony

An untold number of cops have given someone the benefit of doubt and because they did so they themselves are dead. That's the truth and there's no way around it.

That's what the job consists of.

If you aren't prepared for it, you're in the wrong profession.

Not everyone has the sense of self denial required to protect and to serve.

Incidentally Tony, that is a different case. It is obvious that guy was resisting after committing a theft and trespassing. If he had done that in your home, what would you have done? I think he got off easy, in this case. I am just tying to figure out what you think Mesa PD should have done with someone that was obviously resistant, had stolen something, even if it was a piece of Pizza, and was trespassing.

Yeah, I know that was different.

There are few people in this world who deserve the indignity of being shoved on the ground especially on the kind of hot pavement we have here.

These guys love overtime. Our church hires them to direct traffic at $60 an hour each.

If only they could learn to earn overtime by taking the time to show empathy for "suspects" and use a little verbal persuasion instead of yelling and screaming profanities and kicking and hitting like a grade school bully maybe the would see a lot more "compliance". They force non-compliance with the lack of human decency.

Four officers could have shown up, surrounded the man and talked calmly with him for as long as it took. That is how it used to be done before the steroids and tactical training took over.

Lets take a second to look at the officer that crashed the car into the woman. His MIND was so consumed with apprehending a SUSPECT that he completely ignored the fact he crashed his car. he was so consumed with the arrest that he was not in control of his functions. I mean who in their right mind crashes a car into someone else, jumps out, runs as fast as they can , jump on someone and start pounding the crap out of them without even knowing what's actually going on. He was in a rage. He had tunnel vision. that is not someone that should be on the police force. .

Bring back the Posse, Shit got done and no need for prisons. The average scumbag cost the American people over $80,000 a year to house in the prison system. Now it's big business as most of the huge prisons are just large corporations, hell their traded on the stock exchange grossing over 3 billion a year. So throwing your ass in prison is a money maker and that is what makes it scarier than ever !!

They have security video showing him falling over. He was on some kind of medication, so I bet there ends up being a tie in.

Yes there will be some sort of something, maybe the irony is the thug who videoed the end of his life! Not the jail cams

How about:

" Sir, I am here to help you. Sounds like you are here to get your medicine but the clerk called and said you were at the wrong store and some of the patrons are alarmed. I don't need your ID and you are free to leave whenever you like. I would be glad to help you find the right store if you want my help."

We are human beings. Even the mentally ill are created in God's image. Even criminals are created in God's image.

We are not animals to be captured, beaten and caged for the furtherance of one's law enforcement career.

You are right, I am certain the cop went into the situation for the sole purpose of beating some poor schlub senseless. I am certain that the local PD is giving a bonus for the number of fights a cop gets in, and reprimands them if they don't meet their quota.

Really, it is so hard to take a snippet of a situation and totally analyze everything that happened before and after. Sure, the guy could have left but maybe the cop was looking for ID because the mentally ill guy was talking incoherently, and he wanted to see where he lived so he could get him home safely, instead of him wandering the streets and potentially getting lost or hurt. That does happen a lot around here, though I will freely admit that it is usually older people.

The thing about a video is you do not know what transpired before hand. I have sat through many training classes ( during my break from this industry) and watched many video's that will make you think. I watched dashcam video from two police cars. One camera shows what appears to be excessive force. The second camera shows a suspect holding a gun to an officers head. Now does this change your thinking about it? Remember, everything is not always what it appears to be. Another example, you see a man on top of a woman in a parking lot. Do you get involved, point a gun at the man and stop a crime? No, it is an undercover officer making an arrest. When his backup arrives they see you pointing the gun , now you are dead. Everything is not always what it appears to be. I am not saying this arrest was correct, just making the point we do not know the complete story. I know of a case where a body builder was on Molly's Plant Food and broke two sets of handcuffs. What would you consider excessive force in order to control the suspect?
