Opportunities in Wood Restoration

For over 20 years now I have been told you can not make money in Wood Restoration Services alone. One of the reasons I have been in business is I am always thinking out of the box and looking at opportunities to add to my top line sales. I am in the Northeast and one of the more lucrative services we have added over the years is Stamped Concrete Restoration. Most people want to shy away from this service and yet it is so much like wood restoration. The first similarity is that once a "concrete guy" is done with the project they are done and do not want to get into the restoration and continued maintenance. This is like the same situation with wood in that once a builder is done with a wood sided home or deck they don't want anything to do with it yet their is 20 years plus in the maintenance and upkeep of a deck. Secondly, we perform the same basic procedures to the surface. Stamped concrete gets worn to inconsistency based on traffic patterns and before restoration begins you need to strip all the old coating and then follow with an acid to open up the pores of the concrete and to neutralize surfaces, sounding familiar? Then we re-stain or dye the concrete and seal. There are added features for up-selling as well including antiquing and also adding sand to the sealer. Also, you will get $3-$10/Square Foot on these projects. Once you have done a couple you will see a nice way to add $$$ to your sales. Get in touch with a concrete vendor or supplier in your area and they will probably give you a lot of support and information to get you started. Just want to share with those looking for an add on service.

Good post Everett !

We are going on 21 yrs of wood only with no advertising and I have a back log for months now . It's the busiest I have been ever!

There is lots of $$ to be made in wood restoration for sure!

Plenty of money in wood, its all about timing things right with the weather. Wood restoration is basically the only job I've ever had, I have no second income or wife with a job so wood restoration done right can pay the bills quite well. And it bought me a house so yay for wood!
