Can you guess what this chemical is for cleaning wood fence?

Maybe 8 ounces of Oxalic per gallon of water Everett?

I have some Oxalic from a while back in storage but have not used it because I could not get it working on the fertilizer rust stains on sidewalks.

Thanks for posting that video, I have not seen that one.

Sure changes how the wood looks very fast like the other videos.

I just did this to my fence in the backyard. I used a 1 gal of 12.5 sh a half gal of h20 and a dollop of roof snot and lemon aid. Pretty much did the same thing as the videos. I am a newbie so if this question is dumb forgive me but would this mix be OK to use on a deck or is there something better/safer?
Thanks

That looks like it did in the videos.

Now I just need something that I can spray on the grass besides waster to help keep the grass from getting nuked if I try this out on some wood fences.

Nice... Thanks!

Just to make sure I have this correct, after you spray the mix and rinse you would be ready to stain and seal the wood right?

Yes once you rinse and let it dry you can stain it cause I do it all the time.. If I'm not happy the way the wood looks then I brighten.

Rinsing the grass helps but I make it known that the grass along the fence will brown but will come back in time. Tell them it helps them from having to weed eater too close to the fence and the customers are just fine with it.

Thanks! I'm guessing that a pump up sprayer isn't the ideal tool to spray a large fence or deck and I think my roof cleaning setup would produce too much over spray, what type of setup do you use for large projects?

I use my shur flo set up or sometime ill use my x jet. Working with wood a dedicated pump is always better for getting a stronger chemical strength. If you are getting too much over spray try turning the pressure switch down.Try to keep track of how many counter clockwork turns you make.

Thanks for the advice!

If I were to guess I would say it is bleach that is actually mixed WAY stronger than necessary for cleaning. Any stripper will darken the wood, not lighten it. Precarbonate bleach usually leave an inconsistent look especially when dry. Looks like good old chlorine bleach. Anybody spraying that strong a mixture near grass or anything will be pissed. If these guys were so smart they wood have a roof cleaning set up in there truck and knock out the fence in minutes. I always brighten after using bleach, bleach is a base just like a stripper just not as high up on the alkaline chart. There are other reasons for using a brightener, especially oxalic acid. One, it not only neutralizes wood tannins but also iron, rust, and metal stains in wood. On fences this make a HUGE difference in a quality job by removing these stains. Secondly, it works quickly and you get a good idea how the end result will turn out and how well the surface will look. Third, oxalic acid helps open the pores of the wood helping with penetration of your coating.

hey guys, how long should oxalic acid be left on wood?

Bleach?

I thought SH was bad for wood and turned it black.... should I try it on my deck this weekend?

so what is the best process for cleaning a fence or deck? this is what i have found and am waiting on the chemicals to arrive to do i first restoration project..will be my own fence just in case it goes south haha..then i just have to deal with the wife and not a customer....may i should just deal with the customer ha

Step 1 apply DSR-49 solution using pump up sprayer. let dwell 4-5 mins (product info http://www.powerwash.com/dsr-49-deck-siding-restorer.html )
Step 2 pressure wash fence with no more than 1000 psi
Step 3 apply oxlic acid mix in a pump up sprayer to brighten wood. let dwell for 3-4 min.
Step 4 apply stain or water proofing the day after

any feedback is much appreciated.
