Door to door vs leaving quote flyers?

I have been doing a lot of D2D starting out with my business, and I've had some success with it, but I am admittedly not the greatest salesman. I have also tried leaving flyers at houses where no one was home, as well as leaving some quote forms at some houses with quotes for different dirty areas.

I never have gotten a call from the flyers, but I have had a call from the quote forms.

I was thinking today, though, that it may be more efficient to just leave quotes at every door, and skip the D2D selling? Have any of you all tried this? I could hit a lot more houses this way, but I would also miss out on that personal interaction that D2D allows.

Hello David. My name is CL and I'm a power washer. I'm all about helping the newcomer.

I'm designing some door hangers as we speak (or read/write - type). Here is some pretty good advice I'm using:

I voted yes. This is how door hangers work for me. When my guys are done with a driveway in a neighborhood I make them drive around to a minimum of 3 houses in that area that need a cleaning and leave the door hangers. I have 1 sided door hangers and I have my guys write on the blank side say we did Mr So and So's driveway down the road and will give you a 25% discount if you call in this week. Then I have them hang the door hanger on the blank hand written side. People think they are receiving a message from their neighbors or something and actually look at the hanger. I prob get 1 call every month off them.

I have also hired a service to distribute them out in bulk. Didn't work that great, but definitely made my monies worth.

Door knockers work great for me too. Mine has a list of items, (exterior walls, driveway, curb, pool deck, wood deck, roof, etc) and boxes next to them that I check and then a TOTAL PRICE at bottom. I always (at the least) leave them on the two houses on either side of the one i'm doing and the 3 across the street.

Anybody got a link for this Keith? Would like to check his prices versus mine.

I've actually been keeping track of the above links except the EEDM one; thanks for that.

What I'm really curious to know, since I am not the salesman type, is whether EEDM has a similar success rate as D2D? Either one of these has essentially amounted to my entire marketing effort so far.

"Pick one and go for it. Stop wasting time choosing!" This is the advice I got here. We can let fear masked as preparation stop us from taking the leap. Truth is, you don't know what's going to work for you until you try. Stats aren't even correct in sports. Be like Nike David - Just do it!

Excellent advice! Thanks, CL!

I think there is something to be said for leaving quotes..There was a time i was doing residential exterior painting sales and what i would do was canvass a job site and leave quotes to suroounding houses..

I would leave a door hangar and on the reverse side a "range" to get their attention..it would say something like this: Hello-we are painting the house at 123 Main st and as a service are offering a reduced rate for their neighbors..Your house would be between 3800-5200 depending on the level of prep and finish you choose..please call us for further details..

This easily could be modified any way you want it too..We did fairly well with this..But like anything else gotta try it and see

I used to do the same thing when I first started.
