Do you know your direction?

Did you ever wonder why so many power washing companies go out of business? You have heard it before and guess what here it is again....................no one plans to fail. People just fail to plan.

There is no need to respond to this thread but I would like you to think about the following and answer yourself honestly. If you answer no to any of these questions you maybe robbing yourself.

Do you have a fully written business plan?
(if you do when was it last updated?)

Do you have a fully written marketing plan?
(if you do when was it last updated?)

Are both of these detailed with timelines?

Are you marketing in more then 5 mediums per year?
(We are talking about campaigns, NOT dropping 50 brochures at the reality office or leaving a business card with a potential)

Do you have a budget and is it written?

Do you know your forecasted sales for next year?

Although we all may think, “This stuff is not important, I am running a profitable company. I have been doing this for “X” amount of years and I am still in business!”

The point is: Would you keep an employee around that told a potential client with a dirty “_____” they really did not need your services? They are not directly stealing from you but they would be potentially changing the bottom line with their attitude, right?

I bring these things to your attention because I have been talking with business owners of other industries and they do not have these above items written down. Yet they wonder why their business is doing okay but not as much as they would like.

Plan – Focus – Execute - REPEAT

Everything you have mentioned is right on target. However the main reason why business go down is because they are under funded. All of the issues require funds to focus. Our field bring people who are looking for a another way to make money along with limited business education.

Once plans, both business and personal are in place they tend to be part of you, they extend to every action and reaction you do. Everything I do relates to the overall plan. As a practical example for years we have used vinegar as a neutral agent for our exhaust cleaning. I am talking about a pallet per month around $250 per month or $3000 per year-I went on a mission to reduce the cost to another item. We now use citric acid at around $100 per year. The overall reduction in my bottom line is over $5000 because of the labor and storage of the pallet. You asked so what! It is a mind set to change to affect the bottomline-this comes from plans and a business education that puts into actions those ideas.

This is exactly the kind of stuff we need to see here ! Thanks Doc!!

For those without a business plan, here's a link to a sample one. It will give you a starting point and some ideas of what to consider.

Sample Business Plan

Could someone post a link to a sample marketing plan?

Doc,
Excellent post. I answered NO to many times to your questions in your posts. I have no written plan. I keep my plans in my head.

After read and re-reading your post I will revaluate my plan of action. Once again great post.
