Shipping to Canada

I have mentioned this before, but after today I feel I should mention this again.

My wife received a package today for some pressure wash stuff I ordered. 5.2lbs, could have fit into book box as it was 2 rain pants, 2 injectors, and one nozzle switcher. I paid 178.xx for the parts, even though is the US this would have shipped for free I of course knew it was not the same for Canada. Paid an extra $50 USD for the UPS Standard shipping and another $70 at the door for UPS rape fee's or brokerage as it is called. $120 for a $178 of supplies that were 5.2lbs, something is a little off. Here is the kicker, last week got some car parts with a declared value at 3X this price, 3X the weight, paid $80 extra for shipping up to Canada (Shipper was around the same location as where the pressure wash parts came from) and only had a $20 brokerage fee. The difference, the second was fedex, the first was UPS.

The moral of this long winded post, to all distributors, if you can't ship with anything other then UPS, then I can't buy anything from you. UPS might seem a little cheaper at the start, they rape us though when it gets to the brokerage part.

Benjamin, you should post this on all the forums you post on so the vendors will know you are getting ripped off by UPS.

I shipped about the same size package the other day and had it drop shipped to a customer for under $20. It all depends on the quantity that is being shipped monthly. I do agree that UPS isn't the best bet for shipping much of anything.

Will the USPS Priority Mail ship up there to you guys?

They have a great rate for their boxes, as long as it fits in the box, it ships for like under $10.00

Not sure if it will make it up there all the way for that amount or if you have to pay more once it leaves the USA but maybe that is an idea for non-chemical shipments.

The company that sent this is typically not on this forum, but one of the bigger pressure wash parts companies out there. So volume shipping is something they do often and I am sure they get some of the best rates.

I ordered a pump(10.3 gpm so not a little one), 100ft 1/2 2 wire hose, and a few other things. Paid $80 extra shipping from the US and was not charged a penny when it reached my door. $1200 order from bill/paul and way heavier and bigger, also shipped with UPS. I think the import charges have to do with the shipper as well as what's in the box.

Ben, Unfortunately we have no control over brokerage fees. UPS bases it solely on dollar value. We discount all international shipments for the difference between what the free shipping for the US vs the international cost. So as to not double charge. Some shippers may send packages UPS collect, however, we do not. As always we try to be a distributor that makes things as easy as possible for our contractors. If there's ever any quote you might need to compare to someone else feel free to let me know.

Bill it wasn't you that caused this crazy shipping cost. To give you an idea, my last big order with you had 2 boxes, 1 being a 10 gpm legacy pump, other having 100ft of 1/2 hose with a few other things. Shipping was $60, which considering the weight and size is what I would consider reasonable and fair. There was no fee's when it arrived at my door, my wife just signed and they left the package.

I should mention the shipper(mentioned in earlier posts) also included the shipping fee's in the declared value of the package which didn't help either.

What you told us on here, can you put that in your policy's on your website so its plain and clear. I mean no harm in saying that, its just nice to see what is a company's actual shipping policy for Canada. Most say, we will ship, you are in charge of all the duties, so most times we just assume that when we order.

The parts I ordered, well the 2 main ones were only sold by them(Not a standard product, but a custom one), or else trust me I would have not bothered ordering from them.

There is a difference between bashing a vendor and telling the facts and naming a vendor when talking about what happened, sometimes the truth hurts some people.

We all like to save money when we purchase equipment and chemicals for our businesses and there are at least 8 other companies in Canada that post here and on other sites, you might do them a favor and let them know what has happened either by pm, email or other way to help them out.

Some vendors are just smarter about how they handle things, or just care more about the final customer satisfaction, than others. That is what it boils down to. I really only use very few vendors for pressure washer parts, and only one vendor gets the vast majority of my orders, because for me, they were the most responsive. Now, if I could just get them to stop calling and whining whenever I have ordered my parts for the month...Just kidding, I like the Paul and Bill, and they always get me what I need at a very fair price.

I'm in Oregon. For ground shipping my experience is that FedEx gets it here faster than UPS - no matter where it's coming from. This is especially so for S. Cali, FedEx consistently beats UPS by two days.

There is only one vendor that sells a custom injector that I know of, everybody else sells the same stuff. If anybody wants to know the name, send me a PM and I will reply. If I name them then I feel as if I am looking for compensation, but really I am more hoping for awareness for all vendors.

I have also mentioned that this vendor is not really present on these forums.
