Surface cleaner...

Hey guys i dnt ever use a pressure washer and about 1 month I bought a alittle 2.7 gpm Troy built model. I've had some customers sometimes need there driveways washed and I sometimes soft wash them but there is sometimes that driveways are just to dirty for softwashing, and I usually refer them to other local pressure washing companies . My question is where can I find a small surface cleaner for my type of pressure washer , the only reason why I'm doing this because some owners just want me to do them no matter how much I charge them ... Sorry for all the incorrect spelling etc I am using my iPhone ha!

When I had my first pressure washer for cars, a client wanted his driveway done. I rented a 20" cyclone from home depot. 4 hours. The store rental associate told me it wouldn't work with my 2.3 - 2600 psi power washer. But it worked. That's when I bought my sc off craigslist.

I feel bad for guys like CL who bought a Northstar pressure washer before finding these boards. But, haven't you been here long enough to know that you can get a much better pressure washer for about the same price from Russ, Bob, or Paul / Bill?

I would seriously save up for a while and get at least a 5gpm or larger machine.

When you do the math, it cost more than the small machines at the store but will increase your work speed a lot more and the commercial equipment is better constructed.

Sure, you can buy one of those units and use the little 12" surface cleaner which is a little bit faster than using a wand but with 5gpm you can run a Classic 19" surface cleaner which is commercial quality and you clean larger areas faster.

Do you want to work a little bit faster or a lot faster?

Read on the forums how many times guys bought the smaller machines and right after buying them wanted the larger unit so they can do larger properties faster.

You can always find a used larger hot water skid on ebay or craigslist but sometimes they want almost new prices for used equipment and don't understand that probably 90% to 95% of people will not pay new prices for a used machine, that is just how it is.

Nobody can make you make the choices for your business but look at some of the older threads where guys bought small machines thinking it would make the jobs go a lot faster and then bought bigger rigs, I don't think anyone bought one of those small rigs and stayed with it for long, they all bought larger rigs.

You might buy the smaller rig but when you want to sell it slightly used, nobody is going to pay new prices even though you did not use it much before you realized you wanted at least a 5gpm machine or larger and now you are stuck with it trying to sell it for what you can get out of it. You can bypass all of that and just buy a larger hot water skid.

One of the things you need to think about is where are you going to put it?

Is it going into your softwash truck or on a trailer by itself with a tank, reels, etc.....

If you want it on your truck, you want one of the narrow frame hot water skids so it does not take up too much room so you might want to stick with a Landa, Shark, Powerwashstore.com unit, Hydrotek, etc.... The Hotsy are large square footprint skids, the Largo are also large and I think the Alkota might be the same.

If you decide to buy new, don't make the mistake of over-paying for local, call the great vendors that post here like Russ and Paul and see what they can help you with to make it fit into your truck so you have room for your softwash equipment. If it will not fit, you might have to put it onto a small trailer by itself.

Call me if you want to chat or ask questions.

Don't y'all think it's a little overkill to say he NEEDS to spend $1,500+ on a 5GPM+ machine, when frankly, since he's just starting out, a set up like a used 4GPM off CL and a decent SC would work fine. All that can be had for a couple hundred bucks, and he can at least get his business going with it and not be working at a complete rabbit's pace.

I agree, but he was talking about buying a PW that Northern Tool sells for $3600. I'm just saying, for that kind of money, he should just save up the extra $500 or so and get 5 GPM from a decent manufacturer. Or get an 8 GPM cold water unit and have some money left over.

Hey tiger thanks for looking out bud appreciate it but I'm not worried about money right now as I have a softwashing business and I'm just trying to setup a one stop shop for all my customers exterior needs. Thanks for the info guys!

Yeah josh I been here long enough I say about a year bud hahah man how time flyes!

so I have been thinking about what some of yall said I think I can attack another niche in my area by doing sidewalks driveways gas stations, dumpster pad and even fleet washing I found this pressure washer http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/2000x2000/157/157310_2000x2000.jpg do you guys think this is worth it or any other suggestions...

This is exactly the machine I'm using. It works fine for me now. I must say, using equipment like Doug's 8 gpm hydrotek pushing a 19" classic, or Adrian's Belt driven 4 gpm simpson pushing a hydrotek hydroscrub surface cleaner - then going back to mine is not easy. Now I'm looking to upgrade as well. Mostly for the flatwork, so cold may be ok - depending on how things pan out financially. My biggest concern with a higher flow machine is all the water necessary, but it's less time so hmmm...

I forgot to mention my blue lagoon surface cleaner from northern tool crapped out today in the middle of a big job, leaving me to wand for 5 hours. Now I have a gp hammerhead. Next stop, with the next 12 months, 6-8 gpm - hopefully hot with a whisper sc. which is about $5.5-7k, and I want to get a bigger trailer first! My 5x8 single axle is limited and crowded! Got my eye on a 6x12 tandem.

Russ has a Black Friday sale going on for a 5.5 GPM Pressure Pro for about $4000. Also call Paul and ask him about the Largo pressure washers. They are a lot of bang for the buck. You may have to spend around $6000 if you want 8 GPM though. I guess you could do a $3000 8 GPM cold water unit plus a $2000 hot box to keep it in the $5000 range though.

I have a Water Cannon 8gpm with heat I would sell for 2K and a Hydro Tek 5.5gpm with heat for 3500.00. But there is about 1400 miles between us from McAllen to Chattanooga.

Would you take payments? Lol I would be interested in that Water Cannon in the Spring when money starts coming in again.
