Flood Deck Stain

Im staining a deck tomorrow. The staind says use above 50 degrees. Its gonna be 46 tonight but high of 69 tomorrow. I should have it all done shortly after noon or 1 o clock. It will have 10-12 hours to dry before temps drop back down to 44 on Monday night....and the highs Tuesday are around 46-48. Will it dry enough to be ok and stain it and let it be all week or should I wait?

Ive read other online forums and about 70% say itll be ok, the others say wait. Theyre no experts though like here....

Any suggestions from you wood people? I told him to keep the stain inside tonight so it wont be cold in the morning.

Thanks

Chad

I would wait till it's above 50 before you start staining let the wood warm up some but you should be ok. When the wood is cold it tends to hold moisture but as long as it's 50 and dry .

This time of year you are looking at two specific items with the first being the wood being dry. It is important for the wood to be dry and a moisture meter is the best tool. The second is that it is important that it does not freeze or get frost on it before it dries. Those temps would be fine with me as I work in those in the northeast a lot, like the past few days. Another factor to consider is surface temperature, if the deck is in the sun it will certainly help the drying time. Surface temperature is as important as air temperature. Not sure of the temperatures in your area but if it will warm up then do as Shane says and wait as it would be better than having issues to fix later. Shane, I wish I had Texas weather here!

Like Everette said using a moisture meter will save you the guessing game to find out if the stain will stick to the wood properly. You might add an extra day of drying time if the temps stay cooler.

Yeah Everette the great thing about Texas the weather. We have our cool days but it can be 70-80 the next day .
