Danger Zone?

I was looking to possibly shut down and winterize within the next couple of weeks as the temp is rapidly dropping. However i was approached by one of my accounts regarding washing during the winter months particularly to remove salt from their vehicles when it snows ( a fleet wash account).

My concern and question is what if any risk am i running by not winterizing and continuing washing vehicles throughout the winter.Im getting new account inquiries all the time and really want to keep going but am concerned with washing in cod weather.

Am i right to assume that as long as im running my rig in over 32F im good to go regardless of the over night temps??

Is their any danger in leaving it as is during the overnight freezing times and just waiting till its warm enough to fire up??

I look forward to hearing any feedback..

I don't claim that it is a lot of fun, but at the end of the day, we plug the air compressor line into the intake line and blow everything out. Then, we dump a bit of RV antifreeze in to keep everything in order. Next morning, we blow the RV antifreeze back into a bucket.

0 degree windshield washer fluid is much much cheaper than antifreeze. Even if you flushed with window washer fluid after each job, it's cheaper than the damage. Add the $6-10 to the day's invoices

I've seen people insulate those real well or put heat lamps inside to keep from freezing. You should test it out by putting in one of those digital thermostats that reads the low temps for the night and then that will give you an idea what your working with. Just make sure you winterized just in case the nights you are doing your test.

It takes 2 minutes to winterize. It takes 2 minutes to dewinterize. Don't shut down if there is work to be done......it'll be done by someone else otherwise.

Enclosed trailer, unless it is super cold, I would put a couple of Halogen lamps in there, but remember I am in Arizona. Our protocol though, once it is getting below 40 degrees at night is to cover all of the trucks with Tarps, and turn on three or four Halogen lamps underneath them to keep it all warm. Now, I live in Arizona, and the coldest we ever get is 25, and they may be once or twice a year, but my trucks are all open beds.
Take it for what it is worth.

If you are going to do electric heat I would recommend the heaters with the thermostats. These typically have fail safes if they tip, and also turn on a off when the heat is needed. I have always found electric heat to be expensive and to only work when the temps are 12-13`f or above. I have used kerosene heater with thermostats and found them to work way better, but take a larger foot print and you have to keep putting diesel in it.

Are you playing with danger, yes. You freeze your machine, crack your pump head or put a hole in your coil in your burner you will be wishing you had winterized it. If you don't like to winterize it do what I do, park the truck in a heated shop over night and have your trailer/truck insulated.

Webasto.........

I have one of those in the box, and for the truck. Truck just runs better coming out of the shop and since the majority of my work is not scheduled it's hard to set timers on the truck heat. I have looked into cell remote turn on, but with the shop just never bothered.
