Mitsubishi Fuso Box Truck

I have come across a 1991 Mitsubishi Fuso with an 18' box. This truck has 300K miles on a 5.0 liter diesel engine. It has new tires, brakes, windshield and was recently DOT inspected. In the box is a 1000 gal. water tank supplying water to a Hydro Tek hot/cold 5.5gpm skid which is 6 yrs old. There is also a hose reel with 200' hose and just a bunch of xtra stuff. I am curious if any one has owned one of these trucks and if so do you or did you like the truck. As I am looking to possibly get into fleet washing this might be a good truck to start with. Asking price is now $5500.00. I talked to R.J. about the skid, he said it is worth around 3k by itself. My worries lie in the high mileage. What do you guys think?

2000 grand to high just my thoughts. Those trucks are tough as nails but at that mileage it's a pig in a poke.If you have really local work it might be worth a go but I might skip on the truck because the parts are very high an you might be better going into the deal with a truck with a few less miles.Good luck

diesels arent cheap to fix! thats one thing ill tell ya. unless your doing fleetwash I wouldnt mess with it. I have smaller trucks, but my International, I cant even get that in most residential areas. Whats the GVWR on that truck as well? 1000 gallons is heavy on some trucks. I was thinking they were rated at around 19k but I may be wrong.....

For $5000 I would but it also. Show him $4500 cash and I bet he takes it.

Back in my towing days I ran a 1990 Mitsu with a 19 foot flatbed. We put over 300k miles before the owner sold it.

As for weight, I had a Ford E-350 ambulance on the bed a few times but you could tell it was there.

The look on the drivers faces though when I was loading it and the front wheels on my truck came off ground 6 inches was priceless. I just told them to lean forward on the ride back to their shop.

he sounds pressed to sell it. Id have it checked out. Suck to pay 5 grand for a truck with a use washer than realize its going to need alot of work. What kind of shape is the skid in? Those old trucks like that scare me.... diesels may run for a long time but something thats 20 plus years old can be alot of problems! I picked up a Ford F600 for $3500. New tires on it. Its a gas engine but it only had 66k miles on it. Runs like a champ! Guy wanted to sell everything in his business so he could go travel the world. He gave me over $3000 in receipts for work he had recently done. But anytime I have to have something fixed on my international or my 7.3 I always dread getting that big bill!

The international won't be that bad to fix, engine/trans problems will add up fast, but the rest of the truck will be cheaper then you think. My big freightliner with the tandem rear costs way less then lets say a f550 to do all the rear brakes. I have 4 sets of shoes in the back alone, but parts for the bigger trucks are way cheaper then most think. The starter for the 11 litre cummins ism engine, $250 and easily 80 lbs, you won't get one any cheaper for a smaller diesel engine.

The issue with the truck mitsu truck is that all the parts are mitsu only, and yeah they are not cheap.

I have always heard that the Mitsubishi and Isuzu diesel engines are good for about 300k miles, then it is time to rebuild or replace them, anyone know what that cost is to rebuild or replace one of those diesel engines? Just curious.

We had a Mitch Fuso diesel and it was terrible on fuel 9 mpg compared to Ford F350 7.3 14 mpg that we have. We sold the Mitch and got a Isuzu gas 8 cyc and it much better on fuel about the same as F350 14 mpg. We also have a Isuzu diesel 6 cyc that gets 17 mpg.
