Phil Robertson and A&E

With all the fans of that show, all the merchandise they sell, I hope they move to another network and get even more fans and make a lot more money in the process.

They might have to change the name of the show but it will be the same show.

I don't watch it but it seems to be very popular and I see the merchandise in almost every store I go into these days.

Ron, normally I wouldn't take too much interest something like this. This is different because almost a year ago I took keen interest in Phil and his family. It wasn't because of the show, it was because of his life outside the show.

Phil is an elder and a minister in the church of Christ. This is the church I was raised in since I was an infant.

From the beginning we were taught to study the word of God (this is a good thing).

By the time I was 5 years old I probably had over 150 bible verses memorized.

I was winning Bible Knowledge contests against high school seniors when I was 8 yrs old.

Was baptized at 7 (rare to be baptized that young in that church, but they questioned me and determined that I was ready)

Preached my first sermon in front of the entire congregation when I was 9. (About the evils of missing a church service........I was fully brainwashed at this point......lol.)

Attended and graduated from a private church of Christ High School.

Had a full baseball scholarship to one of the top church of Christ Universities in the nation.

And finally, in 1992-1993 I studied to be a church of Christ minister at one of their top "seminaries" (they call them preaching schools).

As a matter of fact, Shelly wasn't introduced to the church of Chris till she was in her mid 20's but she also attended one of their schools and went on mission trips to Russia and Romania for over two years with that church.

Shelly an I met at a church of Christ worship service.

So I have a very intimate knowledge of the church where Phil presides as and elder and serves as a minister.

Here are some things about this church that might make you think twice about this being anything more than just Phil stating his opinion.

1) The church believes men having long hair is a sin. (Looks like Phil isn't concerned about pleasing everyone)
2) The church believes any alcohol consumption is a sin AND transporting or selling alcohol is a sin (The Robertson family drinks wine and has a line of wines they sell)
3) The church believes euphemisms such as "darn" and "dang" are just sinful as any swear word. (There have been times they have said things on the show I know the coC wouldn't approve of.)

Yet, somehow, Phil has kept his own faith and still risen to be an elder in this church that has a history of different beliefs from him. Meanwhile he has stayed true to who he is and what he believes.

He is attacked by the church of Christ hall monitors (some of the very same men I went to seminary with and/or studied under). He is called every name in the book by them.

The Baptists cancelled a speaking engagement because the Robertsons own a vineyard.

The church of Chris cancelled speaking engagements because he was PLANNING on speaking to BAPTISTS!!!!!!!!

It's crazy, but Phil Robertson is a man who couldn't care less what others think about him.

He doesn't care what church of Christ hall monitors think about him. He doesn't care what A&E thinks about him. And he doesn't care what we think about him.

I don't believe there is a greedy bone in his body and I just can't fathom the idea that he would resort to trickery like this for ratings. It's just not the type of man he has proven himself to be over the years.

I know it's hard to believe. I've tried to explain this on these boards and at roundtables before and it just seems to be very difficult for people to understand. Sometimes people just do things because they believe in them. Not everything has to have a sinister motive. Not everything has to be about making more money. Sometimes people just want to spend their time on this earth doing what they think is right because they realize our time on earth is short.

That is the kind of man I believe Phil Robertson is.

Tony I do not Disagree of even Think Phil might not even Be a part of it. A&E is, I have seen him make these same remarks in the past. Sales Slow and Inventory Piling up, publicist says we need some Media Coverage. OK lets do it!!!!!

The rest now is History, Phil might be a Great guy. A&E is all about the Dollars, look at the programming of all these stations. Garbage

Glad My mother Turned the TV off and Kept it off.

I'm moving the TV off in My house to two Days now, we as a Family have to figure something else out. To much of anything is Bad, moderation is the Key to life for all things.

Oh and we will never Know the truth, because in Three days we will stop Talking about it because a COP will have killed another Person wrongfully. Will focus on that in Dis-belief and go back to our Little Lives Like nothing happened.

Three More Days

I agree Tony that Phil wouldn't stoop low. Either way it has been brought to light that A&E are Anti-Christian and I will Not support them or their Mother ship regardless of what the Robertson family decides. I would hope the Robertson's will leave A&E and possibly sign with a Christian station.I sure would miss watching the show as I am a fan. The Robertson's have an offer on the table from Glenn Beck @ The Blaze.

Again it's not about Phil , share holders need paid. Someone over stocked this junk and Phil has nothing likely to do with it. How do we know because he has publicly stated his beliefs on this subject before.

A&E made the ordeal

Phil also wanted off the show if you read anything about this.

So everyone gets what they wanted

I quit watching that show after the first season, it is way too scripted. How many people really care what Phil thinks? He doesn't care how his views affect others regardless of religion and don't be fooled for a second that the Robertson family isn't doing this for the money. I'm so tired of hearing how Christians are being persecuted these days, just read your Bible, go to Church, and treat others as you would treat Jesus if he was the regular Joe in front of you. I also seriously doubt black people feel that they were better off in the 50's or 60's than today that is just plain stupid! Everyone that is in a position to be heard by millions should consider how their words can affect large groups of people, and the media (FOX and Liberal) just love to wind everyone up every time it happens.

in addition to the liberal media's narrative of supporting an open mind and tolerance, as long as you agree with them, there is another ongoing trend that i'm sick of. That is this thing about "judging." people take that one phrase out of the bible and try to apply it to anyone who says they don't agree with something. There is a much broader context than just "judge not lest ye be judged."

so true!
