This is no joke, Log where you waist money and then see how you benefited. The uamcc has taught me how to go from being a low baller to a professional cleaning company.I was going to throw in the towel but the guys and gals kept me pushing to not give up. Today I signed on with my first payroll company. 2 part timers. It doesnt seem like much but its what is required for my needs to keep it real. It was nice being invited to the party. ( that is this forum ) but now its time to step inside a be prepared to be Educated on how to grow your business, how to net work with your fellow PW guys. They are not your competition but your back up. I am currently waiting on bids for a few places. I will be needing the help of Flagler clean and Allred.Darryl Copeland If we land these accounts we will have a nice contract for several buildings. 4 and 6 story buildings. I already spoke to the Purchasing dept. We are in the top 3 being viewed. They were highly impressed with the UAMCC.

Great Job john, after the bidding decision is made... tell us about these jobs... howd you find them, what did you do to market them, how did you use what the uamcc is and does to educate them about how it helps everyone.

I will, First let me say I had my rig , which is not impressive to me parked in front of the facility. The head of maintenance was there inspecting the exterior. Right place at the right time for that. He said he is taking bids and said he is not impressed when they answer the question of how may people to do the job and how will you get the peak of the roof. It is a metal roof. Many contractors said they will walk it. LOL before the Uamcc , that was my answer. I told him We have a lift, 2 guys spraying and 1 grounds person to secure the area from any one that may come near the equipment. SAFETY FIRST. The facility is concerned about lawsuits against them. I assured them of the professionalism of the Uamcc education and provided information where they can verify it. The Uamcc has helped me in that I now have more confidence in speaking to potential customers. I do not fear any questions that come my way. I can answer with confidence. If they stump me, I just say Ill get back to you. I go on the members only forum and I get my answer.
I guess it is different for everyone, No one in my family is self employed, They have the mindset of let someone pay you and let them have the headaches of running a business. Things got really slow for me at one point and I had to take a job, Walmart was the only place that would hire me. I left a job where I was making good money and driving a BMW to being self employed and using my work van as my main vehicle. My wife had to get a job to support the family. I went about it all wrong. A family member actually said when I got my walmart job," now thats better, you are back in the real world." That statement made me so MAD. I refuse to give up. REFUSE TO GIVE UP.
I am finally starting to get work via word of mouth and referrals. My wife is more at ease, She said since I joined the UAMCC things have been going smoother. Its not luck. Its a subtle change but it does help. Thats how it is helping me. You need to find your weakness and go on from there.

I've had the mindset of working for myself most of my life. My former wife used to ask me "when are you going to get a 'real job' ?" I went through several 'real jobs' which most turned out nearly the same... someone wanting to control me. Sorry folks, that ain't me. My own partner (brother) is the same way. When considering to become partners with him, my sole purpose was to gain a salesman. Apparently his sole purpose is to control me. He wants to change how things are done without having any knowledge or experience in the industry. All I can say at this point is... good thing no agreements have been signed. I only have 1 family member that supports my efforts and she will be the sole beneficiary of my legacy.

John, that was an outstanding post! Your experience mimics that of many of us.

Few of my relatives understood the benefits of entrepreneurship. For years I heard the same thing you heard. Funny how things change when they lose their job and need to borrow money.

Chris (my son) and his wife Jill are still going through that with some on her side of the family. It's tough.

"The love of money is the root of all evil." vs. "The lack of money is the root of all evil."

What if.... there was no such thing as money?
