EBC Cleaner

Never used it on gutters. Recently used it on a parking garage clean and tested it against a sodium hydroxide/butyl mix... EBC was significantly better at emulsifying oil spots after spraying on with pump up. Sprayed 50/50 EBC/Water mix and dwell for 5 mins, went back to spray again and you could see spray dislodging oil.

Tested with 1 gallon of EBC mix (50/50 with water again) and 1cup of sodium hydroxide flakes... This yielded the best results on oil spots.
If you add sodium hydroxide, does it shorten the life of the EBC?

Al, I've not tested it enough to know the answer. I really only did a side by side test to see the difference and to give Carlos some feedback.

Hal makes a good point about affecting the synergy of the surfactants... I would need to test more. I have also tried mixing EBC with a sodium metasilicate based degreaser that I normally use - I was happy with the results but can't definitively give an approval or recommendation based on this. I will need to get my butt out in the field on some of our maintenance accounts and test while the guys are washing.

Carlos, given who this came from (a pro's pro), for contractors this is perhaps the best EBC testimonial ever.

Following is one of the best EBC customer testimonials. We received it after using EBC to remove some really bad oil stains. It was totally unsolicited.

"OMG, you guys did a FANTASTIC JOB!!! I'm so happy with your work!"

He has since sent/refered to us two other jobs. And neither were EBC related. But EBC got the ball rolling!

I hear ya Ted. I text'd him this morning thanking him for this. That is a strong endorsement and we are very delighted to hear his experience with EBC.

Also glad to hear/read about other jobs coming your way! That is great news and that is what it is all about.

We like to hear the good, bad and indifferent.....took us awhile to get our "sea legs" but for the most part we are hearing nothing but good feedback on this soap line.

Al,

I will need to speak with my chemist on this relating to the shelf life. EBC in it's original form has a shelf life of a minimum of 1 year and beyond.

With that said, before EBC came to market we tested and re-tested alot of different blends of soaps. One being that we front loaded the formula with a Sodium Hydroxide blend during our inhouse beta testing and the results were okay. As mentioned in a couple post above....when you start adding other ingredients to soap and make your own "cocktail" you run the risk of unknowingly buffering out other key components to a blend/formula that make that soap unique in it's original state. By doing this, you run a good chance of limiting on how well the soap will perform or work for you. Ingredients that make a soap a "good soap" is just one component to the equation. The blending process is the other. This is, IMO, probably one of the critical areas that one does not want to alter too much. There is a ceiling of how much more SH you can add before the formula loses it's original punch. I need to get with my chemist again and see what that threshold is. I hope this makes sense.

However, based on some additional field testing from Steven and others, I think it is safe to say that you can add some additional SH (Flakes) into a strong mix and use it on a job. Keeping that mix for a few weeks in a 5 'er is the question that you were asking I think.

I decided to clean up my old commuter car today and put it up for sale. With a little help from ebc and hot water. I just did a once over and called it good.

Oh...my...goodness! That looks fantastic! I was already sold on EBC but the "Uses" list just keeps getting longer and longer doesn't it Carlos?
