Was on a inspection this is what I found on the roof. I have seen this before but not at this extreme. The containment full they made a trough running to the gutters. Gutters full of grease. This is why I getting into the business. To many poor workmanship. But hay they had there current sticker. This hood guy needed to be run out of town on a rail. We tag as a death trap for our Fire department, no entry unless life hazard. ART

Notice the broken conduit line

Grease full gutter

I have done systems like this. You cant always blame the guy before you if the owner doesn't want to do it right. The system may be cleaned to specs but you cant really do anything about the surrounding area. This is where you try to sell a containment system. In the top picture it appears the grease has totally infected the integrity of the shingle. Those need to be replaced, The damage is done. I personally DO NOT try to clean off old grease. That is a separate roof cleaning job. The minute an area is damaged from old grease you tried to clean guess who is repairing all the damage. I take lots of pictures. Also I only rinse my roofs when Im done, Not clean them. Pictures pictures pictures

Good call John. You cant make the owner pay for grease containment. They barely want to spend to money on cleanings, anything extra, and they frown...I do what is required, and what I am paid for. My after service reports will show that I have documented proof of the problem. I guess if it really bothers you, you could report it. Good luck

Thank you. It looks from the picture that the owner has a channel to feed it to the gutters. Always ask your self," if I do this job what is the liability to me " If you clean the hood to bare metal and the gutters and roof are left like that and the place lights up, Which insurance co. is gonna taker the bill. I can guarantee your will have some of the cost. Have all the pictures in the world, The bottom line is money. If you push the owner too much he will find someone else. Insurance companies will split the cost of repairs. Then your rates will go up. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil, But in time it will get replaced.

Thanks for the good advice. This was a fire inspection and I just happen to look on the roof. A world of hurt came down on this guy. He was fined and was require to clean ASAP. ART
