Need ideas on what paint to use on my trailer.

I am refurbishing my 10 year old trailer. I want to re-paint it from the original black to a gray or maybe silver color to brighten things up a bit. Is there a certain kind of paint I should look into that will hold up better to chems. Getting ready to strip all the wood off and start on sanding and painting. It is just an old 16' utility trailer but want it to look presentable. I am wanting to go for this look here. I don't want to run down to the local tractor supply and buy there paint. Tried that a few years ago.

For what its worth I read somewhere on the boards Rust Oleum (they preferred black) was a good choice because it was easy to touch up out of the can. Just saying..

Nice trailer! I generally stick with black - it is part of the color theme on my website and logo and it will never go out of style! In this area there are a lot of competative high schools and showing up with a blue trailer in a "red" neighborhood would be like tracking through the wrong gang territory wearing the wrong color! Plus, touch up is easy and hides a lot of wear and tear.

There's an old architectal saying that goes "whenever in doubt, black it out!"

Go see Sherwin Williams
Sherwin Williams has high quality products for sure. That's why they have a contract with the U.S. Navy. Their Protective Coatings are 2nd to none with a test rating of over 99 for every batch. As far as Rustoleum, they don't even come close to SW product coatings. Go BLACK.

The bed of our trailer has something similar to rhino liner and I love it. I'd suggest at least doing something like that on the boards and then a different color paint if wanted on the sides.

I have thought about doing something like that too. I wasn't sure if it took to wood very good or not.

You have to "scruff up" the boards first to give it something with a little bit of texture to adhere to, but it took really well to ours. (as well as our driveway... p.s. - make sure the painting area is fully covered under the trailer when you paint, as the rollers cause splatters. :-/ )

Lwhat Rance said. Absolutely!

My company sands and repaints all our trailers every winter. We have always used Rust oleum. Black.

We only have three trailers. All of our trucks have the decks sprayed with a Linex type coating. There are a lot of Urethane coatings that work well, and are easy to patch. I think that over all, it was a great decision to insist on having it done to all of our flatbeds.
