Top to bottom or bottom to top?

Hi Chris. I am using Leslie's SH too. I got them down to $1.20 a gallon if they fill my tank and $1.58 if I get a jug. I did notice that sometimes it cleans good, and sometimes it just doesn't seem to do anything. Is pinch a penny chlorine stronger and more consistent? I'm not cleaning roofs, but having a weak mix causes me to go over a driveway again and again sometimes. It's irritating. Do you know how much pinch a penny costs per gallon and do they have business accounts that you can pull up in the back and fill up?
Yes, Pinch A Penny is just like Leslie's Ralph, except that they tend to have smaller tanks, with more frequent fillings.
Always try to AVOID any place with Huge, oversized SH Tanks, because even the fresh shit is badly diluted, when mixed with that old crap in the tanks.

See if there is a Gorman Pool Supply Wholesale over on your side of Tampa Bay, or check out SCP Pool Supply, it is a wholesale only place Ralph, like Gorman is.

Pinch A Penny's are individually owned franchises, so you have to cut a deal with the franchise owner, some will match Leslie's, and some will tell you to go get funked!

If you get the really fresh Pinch A Penny stuff, and add some TSP to it Ralph, most times you can simply spray it on a dway w/o even using pressure, and it will whiten that shit right up!

I am getting a new used truck within the next 2 weeks. I also I guess should look into a better roof set up. Im starting to get calls for more roofs then regular PW. and nothing on the KEC. ( im ok with that)
John, you said you have the 45 psi Shurflo. What size hose are you using, and how long is it ?

OMFG Brother!
You are gonna be an "easy project" for me to fix!
This IS your problem, all of that small diameter 3/8 hose is choking your pump.
This is a common mistake John, and I too have made it, since 3/8 hose works so well for pressure washing, right ?
But in a Pressure Washer, we have 3000 PSI or more to piss away.
You only have 45 PSI, and I will bet I can piss more fluid, then what comes out of your hose.

In your case, all that is needed is 200 feet of 5/8 diameter hose, and you will think you have bought a brand new roof cleaning pump.
If money is a problem, go to the dollar store, and get 2 - 100 foot lengths of 5/8 plastic garden hose, and teflon tape the two threads together.

wow, No problem, You can advise me. I actually have about 300 ft. of 5/8 hose just sitting in my garage. I got it from a carpet cleaner. I was gonna toss it.
I sent you a PM

I would feel a little better knowing what kind of hose it is John.
But Carpet Cleaners use Sodium Hydroxide, so it may be ok.

Cut that Hose down to no more then 250 feet. Just that extra 50 feet of hose can cost you plenty, in pump performance.
Then, get you some of these http://www.easternmarine.com/straight-pump-fitting-1-2-npt-x-5-8-barb-244-2936
to fit that 5/8 hose onto your Shurflo 2088 series pump.

I can buy any hose I Need to. I just get pissed because I went to a local pressure washing supply and he set me up.

This happens all too often John. A Pressure Washing Vendor will sell what he has, vs doing the right thing, and ordering what you really need.
Or, he may just not possess the knowledge you believed him to have, about very low pressure roof cleaning pump setups.

All that is in the past now John.
Yes, you can buy some brand new 5/8 diameter roof cleaning hose, but perhaps you can use the carpet cleaning hose you already have ?
200 plus feet of 5/8 diameter Roof Cleaning Hose is quite heavy/bulky, and is best found locally, because it saves on shipping.
Look for a Kurri Tech dealer near you, they make an excellent and economical chemical proof hose .

I wonder if anyone has rigged up 2 of the electric pumps together to get a further distance?

The electric pumps are not that expensive but going to the larger pumps goes up a lot in price.

Running 2 of the 4gpm or 5gpm at 70psi pumps.....I wonder how far you can spray? 40'? 50'? 60'?

You know how only some of the newer generators have a 12 volt system on them, I wonder if there is anything you can buy to plug into your older generator to give you 12 volts if you wanted to use a generator instead of using batteries for the electric pumps?

A lot of people have generators, just need something to make 12 volts from the 120 volts off of the generator, they have inverters to give you 120 volts from your 12 volt system in your car, they should have something to do the opposite, just have not seen anything out there but there probably is something and don't know what it is called.

What is the duel pump set up by Powerwash store? I know Jason Temple at Flagler Clean has the system?

It is a dual roof pump system, but NOT really designed to run two pumps at once. Although it can be if needed in an emergency. It is really designed more so that transferring on the job site is easier, as well as having a back up for when the pump you are using fails. AnD they will, all electric pumps will fail, its not a matter of if, but when. I have three of the dual roof pumps anD they are, in my opinion, the best value for A roof/exterior cleaning dedicated pump system you can get. ANYWHERE.

John before you go buying new equipment try dropping down to 200 hundred feet of the hose you already have. While I agree 3/8 will choke your pressure a little you don't need 5/8 hose If you don't have a ground man you don't want a lot of volume so until you do stick with the lower flow shurflo. Get a full season of roof cleaning under your belt then make the decision on if your going to go full bore into it.

It is true that a shorter hose will always spray better then a longer one, but even with 5/8 hose, that particular Shurflo Pump he has isn't what I would call a "run off machine".
However, you idea is a good one Greg, since I kind of assumed he had a helper (groundman).

Just for kicks, here is a pressure loss chart for pipe, that also applies to hose (hose pressure loss is worse).
I could not find one to show how awful 3/8 hose is, so take a look at 1/2 inch loss, vs 3/4 inch loss.

His Pump is close to 5 GPM, so when you go across to the pressure loss per 100 feet of 1/2 inch, you will see that it is nearly 10 psi, for every 100 foot of pipe (hose)
Then, do the same thing for 3/4 inch, on the chart below. The loss of pressure is only 2.5 PSI, per 100 feet of Hose !

3/8 diameter is much worse then 1/2 inch hose is, so imagine how much pressure loss he is experiencing ?
Remember, his little Shurflo 12 volt pump is only 45 psi to start off with.

Chris, running 2 pumps together only doubles flow, it does not increase pressure.
Back when I ran dual 12 volt roof cleaning pumps, I noticed no noticeable increase in shooting distance, but flow did increase.
However, it was a real bitch to get both 12 volt pumps to "work together".

You know how only some of the newer generators have a 12 volt system on them, I wonder if there is anything you can buy to plug into your older generator to give you 12 volts if you wanted to use a generator instead of using batteries for the electric pumps?

Dam You Chris, you are "making" me give away far too many of my secrets, LOL

Here is a link to power supplies http://stores.ebay.com/MegaWatt-mw-electronics?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

They have one that is 36 amps shipped for under 75 dollars!
Weatherproof the power supply, and you be good to go, free of batteries forever, for your 12 volt roof cleaning pumps!

This little bastard will do 36 amps at a 90 percent duty cycle, and 30 amps all day, forever!
However, this link will disappear in 25 days http://www.ebay.com/itm/400-Watt-9-...248?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1726e470

Not arguing the loss of pressure just the fact that last time I talked to john he didn't have a ground man which will almost always lead to plant loss with a high flow pump. Chris john is just starting out in the roof cleaning side of this business it is better to crawl than walk. if it is not in his budget to have a groundman than he is better off with less flow. Just my opinion. as far as the way to spray everyone has a different angle on that just experiment until you find the way that is comfortable for you and eliminates runoff.
