Truck problems this morning

2005 Chevy 3500 with a 6.0L with 118k miles.
I have never had any problems until today. Started fine this morning. Drove across town, Shut it off for 15 minutes. And it wouldn't start again. Cables were tight, I taped on the starter and it turned right over. I drove it back across town to get it home. Then shut it off then tried it again and it fired right up.
Should I jump too conclusions and replace the starter?

Yep, it is going out. Your choice on whether or not to replace it. If you choose not to, keep a hammer nearby.

Just tested the battery. Volts on dash and multimeter are good.
$165 for a new starter. Only called one place.
Parked it behind the house outside of the HOA gate. Just incase it won't start again and have to change it out without getting another letter. There is someone in the neighbor hood that doesn't like you to open the hood on cars.

Last Dec. I was on my Aldi route. 4 stores and 225 miles round trip when my starter went out 90 miles from home. Hammer didn't work either. Better replace it before you get stranded. At least pull it and have it tested to be sure.

Also, check the battery cables for corrosion. Sometimes it wicks up the cable underneath the coating and you can't see it... If they're turning green see if you can cut back past the bad portion and slap it back together.
I second pulling it and having it checked before buying a new one, for sure.

Change the starter, even though it is intermittent it's still going out.

Should have just bought a Ford Chris and you wouldn't have that problem. Wait, never mind. My truck is actually due for another breakdown itself, it's been 2 months since it's seen a tow truck so it's about due.

I have a fleet of 30, only one of them has seen a tow truck, but it saw it 5 different times for the exact same thing. There was a pinched wire in a wiring harness that took someone a long time to find. The rest have been great, except for the occasional battery that goes bad.
