I've been looking into getting a cardlock fuel card for awhile now. I've done some research on the fuel price differences and here is what I came up with.....

Unleaded - Regular Gas Station...........$4.00 Per Gallon
Diesel - Regular Gas Station...... ...$4.00 Per Gallon

Unleaded - Cardlock Gas Station.......$3.20 Per Gallon
Diesel - Cardlock Gas Station...........$3.40 Per Gallon

I would just like to hear if anyone has pros/cons for getting a cardlock fuel card......any good or bad experiences with them.

I love it. We spend an insane amount in fuel, and it tracks mileage for us, and differentiates between fuel used for the truck and the machines. That is really nice come income tax time.

Pros
Easier to track, I get a spread sheet at the end of each month with way more details then I get on a receipt.
Easier for the accountant by far
Better price, especially if you are using a good amount of fuel (My bill got up over $5k last month)

Cons
Only one I can think of is availability, ie it might not be the closest one if you run out at site.

I generally have to plan a little a head to know where I can use the card lock cards and keep in mind when fuel is getting low. Although the Pro's out weigh the Con's by far.

We use them and like Scott said it help keep track of ever thing fuel, what type, amount use in gallon and dollars, mileage, and mpg.

unleaded at a Cardlock Gas Station @ $3.20/ Gallon
1US Gallon=3.78 litres
Here in New Zealand we buy gas by the litre @ $2.089 Per Litre (NZD)
Your Gallon of gas would cost me $7.89 (NZD)

I lived next door to man who built those companies, he's a great guy. Brothers not so much. Still have his drive way cleaning on my Christmas list. He donated a lot of land in Scott's city. Years ago they were the largest seller of retail fuel in the world. Scott's met the guy I'm sure, he never dresses like a billionaire. Unless he's at church! At the office I have never seen him in anything but jeans & polo. At home well it's a really bad pair of jeans with a greasy shirt on. He has a 20 car garage.

This Neighborhood I left Had some Crazy Powerful People in Arizona. I think 90% of the Money in Arizona Lived in that two Blocks. Charles Keating Attended Meetings at Jeff House. Jeff was a Nice guy to, got caught up in Things he shouldn't have. Thats Diamond Dealers, Fast come Fast go. I wonder what Jeff's Up to today? I never Met Charles, he didn't live in the Neighborhood. I worked for Lincoln and still do work for them now as the new company.

Funny Ted and I Just talking about him.

Jeff was a good friend. I dated one of his sisters. I also grew up with his wife. He passed away about ten years ago at the age of 43. He had some serious health issues, but I think his heart finally got him.
Incidentally, that article insinuates wrong doing. No one was found doing anything illegal. It was just a program that was far more successful than anyone anticipated, and Jeff was made a scapegoat.
