12.5% SH Question ( ? stale)

Got a price of just under $200 for a drum of 12.5% SH, but not sure how long it's been sitting in the warehouse. Even if its old, I like to get some opinions on if I should get it anyway at that price.
Have no idea what the degredated strength would be, but its quite a bit cheaper than buying gallons of 5 or 8% from local stores. This is the only local vendor that I could find that carries 12.5% at near that price. Closest to him was $350/drum.
I will be contacting them tomorrow to see if they can give me a time frame as to how long its been there.

What constitutes STALE. If the price is right for you and you are getting a good deal go for it. If you think it may have lost some of its potency make your mix a little stronger after all you can afford to use a little more because you got it at a good price. Test some out on an old black or dark blue tee-shirt and see how stale it is.

I don't know. $3.70 a gallon isn't cheap. I can get 10% at home depot for $3.45 a gallon. I'm getting 10.5% at Leslies pool supply for $1.58 a gallon. Fresh every thursday. You are in LA ? there are no pool supply stores around?

when I 1st started washing houses, I had called every single pool supply company around town including leslies looking for liquid chlorine/pool shock, all of them said they didn't carry it and a couple of them said it's illegal in Louisiana.
Now I know this isn't the case, because I finally found some but for $4.50 a gallon after tax

Thanks for the info guys, I tried a few pool supply places, and they either had no clue what I was talking about or only had powders.
Under $100 a drum -- I need to find that down here!

What constitutes STALE.

Stale = Screwing Around = Time = $!

I always try to buy it within a day after it arrives at my supplier. He receives it 2-3 days a week and always sells me from the latest shipment. Makes a difference!

Jeremy, is that what you use (12.5% @ $4.50) for your house wash , or a different strength and cheaper.

Just seems like the chem prices are a little higher from places I've talked to so far.

Will do, thanks.
I like to use local guys when I can, and if they are reasonable .

Hmm, pool stores that have know idea what sodium hypochlorite is.. Just drive around back of the store and see if there is a 1000 gallon container. Can't imagine a pool store that does not sell liquid chlorine.

I agree Nick, but every one I have called so far says they do not carry any liquid, only powders.

Who Dat Nick!
yeah, a janitorial supply place has it. I just need to see how old it is. Thanks

Usually, yes.
It's only 10% though.
I may end up buying a drum from univar.
I forget their prices though but it wasn't as cheap as some of these guys here get it.
There's a place close to nola that has it for about $2.75 a gallon but I forgot their name
