Pellet stove soot

Renew roof

Hi Guys,
What would be the best cleaning solution-method for cleaning pellet stove soot on Brick-painted aluminum-vinyl and painted wood?

Thanks
Gene

Thanks Rance, I dont have any pics at the moment but I will get some monday.

For some reason I cant upload pics. Anyway, the soot is on vinyl siding, painted metal and painted wood. Any suggestions?

Just thinking out loud. The staining is likely to be from creosote as well as soot. Creosote is created as part of the process for making charcoal all to do with the way the timber is burned. Creosote is created when any wood is burned and in this case in the form of pellets. My thoughts are that the creosote could have soaked into the Vinyl and the paint staining it right through. A good treatment with 50/50 SH applied with a sprayer direct to the problem would be my plan of attack, plenty of dwell time, rinse off and retreat if necessary. Would certainly like to see the AFTERS on this one.

I would go with some regular cleaners and do a few test spots so you know if the stain is in the vinyl and other surfaces or not. This way you are not making promises you cannot keep and know how clean the surfaces will get.

I found some Grez-off heavy duty degreaser made by Spray Nine. I did a spot cleaning on the wall and this stuff worked really well and will be what I use. I did try a 50/50 mix of SH and it worked equally as well but I will be doing soffits and dont want to be under them when the SH drips down on me so I will stick with the Grez-off. Will be doing this job on saturday and pics of before and after will be posted

We had a similar situation today with pellet/wood stove soot all over a section of white vinyl porch ceiling. I tried using our house wash mix first just to see how it would do. It partially removed the soot, but was far from the outcome I wanted. So, I mixed up a batch of Russ's BD20. It worked flawlessly and the soot stains are completely gone. It made for a very happy customer.

Here is the link: BD20 Butyl Degreaser

We used Grez-off from Spray nine and paint pads, it worked like a charm.

I have found that not all pellet stove stains clean the same. Most of the time a butyl degreaser works pretty well such as Purple Power but have found that EBC works as well. I put it on straight from a bucket with my brush and scrub a little with the purple power.
