UAMCC reaching out part 2

Tony Shelton

BS Detector, Esquire
Yesterday Ron and I went to Orange County.

I met with Mr. Boon. The conversation was very good. Just like almost every other Stormwater manager I've met over the past three years Mr. Boon was a very sensible gentleman with a concern for the environment and a concern for business interests as well.

The recent issue has been tough on his staff. As expected they just want to put this behind them and move forward.

I let him know that we are reaching out to the PWNA to look for common ground so that hopefully this will be the last time we have to deal with this type of problem in our industry.

I offered to help populate any workshop he might have with not only UAMCC members, but hopefully PWNA members AND any local contractors we can reach. A local workshop like this isn't about orgs, it's about local contractors.

After leaving there Ron and I both went to speak with Ty Eubanks at his shop. Ty is a PWNA board member and was the local liaison for Robert's dealing with the Orange County authorities.

Ty has a great looking shop and has a nice professional setup that any power washer should aspire to.

At first Ty was a little on the offensive as would be expected since we had never met and our only knowledge of each other was from filtered information coming from others, each with their own agenda.

That didn't last long and soon we were able to discuss some common ground. We also spoke about our differences. None of which mean much except for the BMP shopping which effects everyone in the industry whether org members or not.

During the conversation it dawned on me that just a short 3-4 years ago I was a member of both orgs. Ron and I sat and had dinner with PWNA board members at numerous events culminating at Jerry's San Diego event.

It is amazing how much damage has occurred since then.

I doubt any of the longstanding personality issues will ever be resolved. And I'm not sure they should. I know there are characters involved that I will personally never associate with again.

Disagreements are one thing. Ron and I disagree all the time. But certain character issues are where I draw the line personally.

Ty seemed genuinely interested in our position on the BMPs. I sent him a lot of information regarding concerns via email today. I hope it will get more traction than it did when we presented those concerns to Robert almost three years ago.

I hope we can come to a consensus that allows all of us to quit having to worry about problems we bring on ourselves and work together to deal with problems that come from outside sources.

We are cleaners, not polluters.

Ron was able to communicate some of the frustrations we have had with industry reporting and other issues as well as get in some discussion on the concept of no off property discharge.

We walked away with high hopes. If the other BOD can spend some time learning what we are about, rather than just relying on snippets or posts or selected screenshots sent from those with an agenda we might be able to at least work side by side, if not together on some issues.

Time will tell.

Another issue we proposed was to have an authorized contact person for communication between the UAMCC and PWNA without personality filters.

We proposed Steven Button as this contact for the UAMCC side.

Steven is an outstanding example of what a successful powerwasher should be.

He is one of the most level headed people I know.

I hope this will work for both parties.

I agree with Tony on this one. Steven would be great.

The Uamcc represents all mobile cleaning professionals , pressure washing is a group within this industry dear to me.

I have been a part of the Pwna for years, there might be a little purple in my blood still. The Pwna colors used to be purple.

The industry seems to think we compete with these others orgs. These people are just other cleaning professionals that chose to belong to a different group. Choices are great An competition raise the standards on Botha sides. If the two orgs can work together on some main wash water issues an Saftey we could all grow stronger standing side by side.

I've said it in the past , join something. Support a cause in your industry. Stop making excuses as to why you can't join one or another. It's your livelihood support those others helping you stay safe an keep regulation reasonable.

I'm personally as president forming a joint org coalition to all other orgs. I have made some calls to other orgs in our industry. Guess what they all want to meet to see if we can collectively all work together to better this entire industry. Since Steven is handling the Pwna we might as well allow him if willing to get a team of select guys to assist in a larger task.

Keep in mind that our jobs as org leaders are first an foremost to make awareness to members an consumers that our industry is operating with a level of standards that's head an shoulders above others. I believe that alone the Uamcc an the others have the same tough road. If we can form a joint coalition to set the agenda for contractor safety an awareness programs the sky's the limit.

I'm the only person I know that has worked with literally every org. I believe that with this as a goal the industry could possibly do great things. We will move slowly , keep positive an let the members of this industry know how this is working.

Maybe Orlando in two months could be a proving ground. Will invite all orgs to come to a meeting.

Sept in Las Vegas we have decided the enviro show will be packed with environmental talks from all crafts. Demonstration education for all the latest technology.

The Uamcc is here for all contractors who are willing to better themselves an assist others in those same goals. This includes all the orgs in our cleaning industry with the same agendas.

Meeting Ty Eubanks was actually a gas, been awhile to see a bod at the Pwna with some confidence. Do I like the guy? I don't dislike him at this stage of the talking with him. He has the old school mentality I'm Pwna an members are the only important thing to the Pwna. Folks we have to stop claiming we are industry leaders or orgs if we are not going to embrace the industry.

Why these orgs keep failing ? I watched a man Doug Rucker call into the Pwna a few years ago, I think you know the man. Well Doug asked the Pwna for help. They told him no because he's not a member. Hold on, isn't Doug a possible customer or member if they had helped him?

Why is the Uamcc growing so fast? Because these our customers of the org. Help someone they will join. If a man called in for a house wash an you said sir you not my customer I can't help you, how many customers would we have?

I set out long ago saying if I had ever become president I would change that. It's done!

We welcome all willing to improve themselves and help others. Come join the Uamcc , I know you will find it to be amazing. If you don't , that means you didn't try to help enough. Sometimes you have to put in to get out.

I want to thank Jillian Shelton , she is amazing. I have never experienced a doer like her. Chris your a lucky man to have her.

I want it personally thank Morgan Booz for making the news letter come to life. Morgan has worked many hours selfless making sure timelines met. I want you to know Morgan all here appreciate you.

My bod for just keeping themselves aware.

Scott Stone for his presence , some may laugh at that one. But it matters to have a guy like Scott on the team.

I gave the changing the industry award to Tony because I don't think there was another person who has enlighten us an change our lives in this industry. Tony coin the phrase "solution to pollution" teaching POWERWASH professionals simple but lawful ways to clean. Teaching the next generation we are cleaners not polluters.

Everett Abrams is a guy I hold in high regards, the man years ago was stomped on by some cancerous folks in this industry. I admire Everett for supporting the industry once again. I hope thAt we never have days that dark ever again. Everett Abrams is a man with integrity an ambition. We need more leaders like Everett to emerge an Carry this industry finally to the next level. Thanks for being a Freind !

I missed a bunch in my dribble, they all know who they are. I just wanted to say thanks to all the guys who have let me help them an for all the help an support I have received back.

Doug Rucker, Jeff LeCours bought my membership to run for president. But at the days end it was because your life was effected by regulators is why I chose to be the president of this industry. I saw your life effected by the police citing an shutting you down. To this day people don't believe the words from the Houston police. " will cite then on the spot an let the judge sort it out" I told I was in Houston helping myself because I didn't need this cancer coming to Phoenix an hurting my family. Truthfully I didn't want it see anyone get hurt further by this. I watch this happen to others over the years. I didn't want to see you get hurt. We may not have fixed it to be perfect but I'm glad your able to make a living in this industry. I hope that we can repair the damage done fully. Which leads me to saying thanks Doug for getting me in this with both feet. Beside me as vp the Uamcc is strong. You have been a great Freind , I hope to enjoy the next 18 months of our journey to change this industry for the better an remain focused an positive on our personal goals to better everyone's lives.

Thanks to all for reading my thoughts tonight, i went over the top tonight after spending a few days hanging out with good friends.

I love this industry

Great work Guys!

I have to say the PWI is what sparked my interest in the UAMCC. I would stay up for hours reading posts, and yes I did offer some poor advice in the past. I offered all I knew. I found the UAMCC members offered correction in a way of not making me feel 3 inches tall. I learned from them. I dont knock any other orgs. but I cannot devote my time and expenses to everyone. Just like my religious faith, I have it, Im not looking to change it, I respect yours. But please dont disrespect mine. Loyalty to me is very important. I look forward to meeting many more of my professional family in Orlando this July. Our team of leaders are doing a great job, I hope that someday I too will be in a position to volunteer my time to serve with them.
