Cargo Van Slide Out for Skid

Here is a video I shot this morning with Mike Garza, a friend of mine and fellow Houston Area Contractor and member of the UAMCC. he is in the process of building his rig in the van and thought some might want to see the slide out he purchased and had installed.

Looks great, that's a really heavy duty slider. I'm waiting on delivery of two sets of drawer sliders (Knape and Vogt brand) that are 42" long, 100% extension, but only rated for 500lbs. So they couldn't handle the skid, but I'm mounting my hose reels on them to slide out the back of my sprinter van (the back van doors open 270 degrees). If anybody is curious, they run less than $150 per drawer (you have to get your own drawer top to bolt the sliders too), and I found that Holdahl Co. out of MN had the best price. If they are sold out on ebay, call them and they will order some more in for you 1-800-777-8992. I'm hoping they hold up to the vibrations, both while rolling down the road and when the machine is running.

I have had a slide out in my van for 5 yrs. Fully extended it was only good for 600 lbs.My hot water machines weigh 800 so never mounted any of them .

That is nice! I'm working on something similar for a second unit on a box truck. Side door should be delivered Monday. Then will figure out which slider I will be mounting once the door is installed.
I like the hose reel on yours! I might have to steal your idea there!

Yeah, Mike and I us the same fabricator. He did that on one of my trailers for stackable hose reels. Another local contractor referred us to this same fabricator and he is really good and this stuff. He is also puts the storage baskets and ladder racks on my trailers.

Has anybody bought or fabricated something to hold/stack 5 gallon buckets (at a slight angle)? Something like the hvac guys have for their freon.

I like the reel bracket!

So do I. That would be a great idea for anyone to have on their rig.

Like the old saying - "No matter which direction your hose reels are mounted, its always wrong"
The bracket would fix that

Those slide out units are very popular in the fire service. I almost bought one for my box truck. I decided to just leave the hot box outside on a permanent platform.
The doorway tanks are great. Just bought a 300 gallon one like guy has. Kinda wish I went 400 or 500 gallon.

That hose real is very clever. Mine are going be stacked 3 high might be to much weight to swing freely. Keep us updated on this design. Looks very worker friendly

I think maybe he was thinking of the possibility of the slide actually breaking and falling on someone. My immediate thought when I saw it come out was "I don't care how much weight it's rated to hold I would still want to be able to fold some supports down for that extra piece of mind. " I also thought about a brake of some kind, or a locking bolt with multiple choices for locking it in place at desired extension lengths.

He's actually having some adjustable jack stands installed on it as well. One of the things we discussed is the weight of it and it running and vibration, it would be good to have stands underneath it.
