HomeAdvisor - website service that people list RFP's on

Its Junk

I got a thumbtack today, customer wanted quote on a house he "might" buy. I did not waist my money sending quote. If that were home advisor, it would have cost you $12 no matter what.

When I was using Service Magic, every lead I got was a bad lead, I think they made up some leads if I did not get one in a month or so.

Service Magic, Home Advisor, old scam, new scam, same old scam. Separating you from the dollars in your wallet.

Well.. Only 24 hours on thumbtack and I met with a homeowner face to face and bid his 4100 sq ft home to include roof, house wash, drive way, and patio. Seemed very impressed with my sales pitch, and information I was able to give. Waiting to hear back. He only got 2 or 3 replys, and everyone else was a no show

That being said.. Even if I don't get it... $3 for the bid experience, the sales experience, and exposure is worth it IMO.. I am going to continue to use thumbtack.. At least for a month or so.. I'll keep you all posted

Ive read all these posts from different parts of the country including my back yard and in the time ive used them ive had very good results.

Anything looks good when it's the only "thing" you do. If all I did to get calls was threaten to kill the HO's family cat....I might think the results were "good". (see: confirmation bias)

I've done numerous SEO checks on "pro" H-Advisor/S-Magic business owners over the years, some in-depth, some just a keyword rank check (like below) and nearly every time...the reason for the positive review is because they are either non existent in the search results or so deep in the pages that nobody would ever find them. It's whats called a "false economy".

I'd offer suggestions but I have a client in your area...I will say this, with regards to a website, cheap is not always inexpensive. Any website provider that is unhinged from results isn't worth the price of a payphone call. In your case...the word malpractice comes to mind when I looked at your riversidepws.com site.

www.riversidepws.com is a dormant site

if i wanted an SEO check i wouldve had my guy do it

Mike, I think he was just letting you know that your site is not working, he probably did not know that your site is dormant, he is probably just trying to be helpful as he is very knowledgeable in SEO, Websites and the other online marketing aspects. Barry really knows a lot when it comes to websites and SEO.

Most people react negatively but I assure you it's not personal, I don't judge websites....search engines do. I don't post here very often and wouldn't have posted at all except that even with all (good) advice against HA, you endorse it...which could potentially lead to someone else following the same path. Your (positive) opinion of HA is biased...even if it's unintentional.

As I said, many times I've shown a supporter of H-Advisor that their confirmation bias is a result of HA understanding SEO and Keywords....and them not. The perfect client for HA is a person that doesn't even try to rank organically. In most cases, HA can't rank well organically either so they use adwords. The false economy is twofold....A) the victim pays several hundred percent for the adwords that create the leads that they do get and B) they have no persistent benefit....as soon as they stop paying, their investment vanishes.

A person would be better off managing their own PPC campaign (and richer) than passing thru to HA. Keep in mind that Organic get's 85% of page clicks vs 15% for paid. Better still....investing the same money in their website would return the best long term ROI. Cost per click diminishes over time for Organic plan...which is why most choose a organic plan.

My advice for people with the loot is like my advice for America's energy plan....ALL THEE ABOVE - DRILL BABY DRILL. Meaning, after you lock up #1, and the cash is rolling in, there is nothing wrong with grabbing all the candy. For those not in the top 3-5...there is work to do at home before tossing it willy-nilly at anything that sounds good.

Dormant...not dormant, The other site isn't doing any better BTW. I'd wager the average PWI member could spot the most glaring omission of both sites...it's that obvious.

You don't need a "SEO Guy" to do a check...just google your primary service + location. SEO isn't a magical dust available only to SEO witch doctors....it's mostly common sense.

Again....not picking on you, I just want people to understand HA is a money pit, generates bottom feeder customers and competing bidders...no value selling, all price selling. I've addressed this on two other forums.

barry.. maybe you can look at my site?… 0_0

So if im reading this right your calling me a bottom feeder no value selling, price selling guy- right?

You know nothing about me or any service i provide

You base your opinion on an SEO search of an old website that i haven't looked at in almost a year

The other site is relatively new which is why i turned on HA to begin with

Can i help it if ive made it my business to get in front of most people and sold them?

you come off like an ass

Mike, re-read what he typed, he typed bottom feeder customers (the people that use the service to find contractors, not contractors), you are not understanding what he is trying to say and trying to help you. Take a break and re-read what is typed and don't be so jumpy, he is helping you but if you don't want the help that is ok as I am sure he will stop the helping now.
