hey hey

I have a customer that wants me to restain their house and deck. Along with that they need me to replace the top deck rails. i will do it but what should I do about the wait time for staining the new wood?

Just stain it and tell them it won't look the same or last as long. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but staining too soon doesn't hurt the wood, it'll still breathe as long as you're not using paint.

One of the benefits in using oxalic acid as a brightener is that it will open up the pores of the wood. The same applies to concrete by acid etching it concrete guys are getting the pores to open up so they can dye the concrete, same idea with wood. Once you get it on hit it with a cleaner and brighten this will get rid of mold and mildew too. I do this with new wood on every deck I do repairs. If you do not you could get a call within 30 days that it is peeling or looks "washed out" compared to when you first stained it. Matching stain is an art that requires intermixing to match it the first time. After that the sun will even out the look of the wood. Intermixing is when you take a little of another color or type of stain for color and tinting purposes. We are actually shooting a video on intermixing this Wednesday in our shop.
