Lift rental, customer pay, or u pay up front?

My customers like to have break downs, because of how their budgeting is done. I don't have a problem with that. We also have it in our contracts that there is a 10% premium on any rentals we do. I don't have a problem with that, either.
As for getting stiffed, I think it is a total of about $5000 in the last 25 years. I have not been stiffed in about 10 years, though. I guess I am better at getting customers that are going to pay.

We rent lifts quite often and our vendor provides us up to 30 days to pay once the lift has been picked up. I always pay within 15 days though as our vendor appreciates that. We have never charged an up-front deposit on any of our jobs. However, we are considering 20-25% deposit on the next big roof cleaning job that we do.

You guys may think i'm crazy but we charge 60% over our cost for lifts if needed. I just bid a job for a large 13 building condo that we are not able to complete fully from the ground. We won the bid and the customer never questioned the bid. On our bids we have a line item for equipment rental if needed and the their fee for the item
