paint discoloration

Has anybody had trouble with exterior paint turning a different color after 1% SH has been used? We have had a few in the past month that have turned a total different colors within minutes of application.

I assume you see talking about wood siding? And when you say a totally different color what are you meaning? Blue to green white to yellow ? personally have never changed the color of paint using just soap and 12.5% sh. I have cleaned it so much that it looked totally different ( black to light blue ) but it was the original color. I don't know if sh and soap can make the paint change color.

We have had two. Both green shades of paint. On one the 3 sides where fine and the back turned mustard yellow within a minute. Has to do with the pigment in some paints. AC Lockyer has more details I believe. I won't even quote green shade homes any more.

Yes. It happens. Always do a paint test. Especially on odd colors like green pinks orange. and blues. It's usually a couple of the sherwin Williams and some Benjamin Moore paints.

No it's paint. a pink color turning tan. Trying to upload the picture20140806_145437_resized - Copy.jpg
We only washed the right side and stopped

Man sorry to see that happen to ya, I have washed a hundred wood sided houses and never had anything like that happen..what do you tell the homeowner? Do you think it needs to be painted?

Just got off the phone with a painting contractor. He will have me a price the first of the week. Sherwin Williams will not stand behind it saying we used to much SH. At 1% SH it changed from pink to tan.

Im also a painting contractor and have never had that happen on any paint, house wash or roof wash getting on paint. May be Ive just been fortunate over the years.
I have had one potential customers say that one companys solution actually burned out the color and they were using a powder.

Had the same issue Sherwin William magenta 5 or 6 years old paint all turn yellow. Defective pigment should be warranty. I tell customers to contact paint company. Not my negligence. Works gid me.

Some paints will change if wet too long and will change back once it dries. They are usually blues, reds, greens and bold colors. I have heard some problems with pigments. Something else to consider is: Was the paint faded from the sun? It will fade one side and not the other. You need to pay more attention and take pictures and video. I had a customer accuse me of discoloring two small pieces of vinyl siding this week. Turns out she had storm damage and contractor didn't match the siding. She never looked at it and hadn't walked around her house until after we cleaned it.
