What the Heck Is This Thing<

Was fishing in the local river a few days ago and found this thing lying just off the waters edge? I haven't any idea what it is or what it's for. Now, I'm not one to normally pick something like this up, simply because it looks high tech and expensive,..BUT I'm going to be honest about it and try to see find the owner,..and if I didn't pick it up someone else would have, heavy kyaking river. My intention is to put a listing in the paper and see if I get a response.

The pieces stack inside the screened cage. The weaving in the one picture is like a rubber material.

But my question is "What The Heck Is It?"

Hey Ralph, yea, that's what I thought until I picked it up and looked at it. But I ruled that out as soon I looked closer at it. And those pieces inside aren't any part of a minnow trap I've ever seen.

My best guess was some kind of sediment gathering contraption,..but why not just use a rock Ha,Ha,.. And maybe it doesn't even belong in the water?? But it is all stainless steel, except for the rubber banding??

Mt first thought was the filter portion of a pickup hose fire departments sometimes use when they don't have a hydrant close enough. Second thought was some sort of filtering system for commercial food manufacturing.

Red, your talking about a strainer for drafting. Does look like similar at first glance, but not it.

It measures how wet water is.....usually waterologist use them around water treatment plants.....not sure why it would be in the middle of nowhere!

Hey Carlos, never heard of a waterologist, but this thing was found in the river along the edge, and although it has hoops for a chain or something to attach it there was anything holding it there. We do have a water treatment plant and sewage treatment plant on the same stretch of river about 2-3 miles from where it was found. If it's theirs, they should have attached it and have them stamped as to whos they are.
