Golf Course Guides? Has anyone tried advertising in them before?

Hey Guys,

I got a call today from an advertising company that is putting together the new golf course guides for next year. Its for one year and I would be the only ad on a certain hole, sounds like a good deal and has potential to hit high end clients of this area. (which I work in quite often and have done several PM work in already)

Has anyone tried these before and had any success?

Never tried it, probably never will / would. Take that money, double it, and put it into your web site ranking, And if you are already ranking first or second, put the cash into your retirement lol.

SCAM!!! ( i mean poorly placed advertising dollars )

Dont do IT!!! They call me all at least twice a quarter. I couldn't see the ROI...... I think they call out of a California area code if I remember correctly. ( we don't answer out of city zip codes anymore anyway. )

Im only 26 so retirement is a longgg ways away lol but $400 dollars sounds like a good deal to gamble so Im gonna swing the bat, if I strike out no worries...but ya never know, might get a double or even a home run lol

I look at it as I already clean 2 HOA in the course as well as all the sidewalks for the property management, so it may help build more recognition in the community

Let me ask you this.........do you, or have you ever played golf? If so, did you ever call a company you saw advertised at a golf course?......Anyone?

I've played a least 100 different courses, and many more rounds than that and have never....never called or can even remember a company that advertised at a golf course......why? Because people that play golf aren't thinking about or even receptive to any marketing unless its golf related.......think about it.

Put the money in proven methods of marketing.......you'll get more out of it.

I totally agree... If you want to advertise on a golf course. offer a coupon for each tournament they do........ Those that get the free grab bag of goodies, plus your coupon might call you... and it costs less than a penny for a coupon..

All good advice fellas and I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks guys

This goes for the sponsorship of holes at golf tournaments as well. I have done many, but i don't do it for the possible ROI, as I know there will not be any. I do i to help out the cause of the tournament. Your exactly right, I have played 100's of rounds of golf, never even noticed the ad's anywhere at a gold course.

Make sure the advertising company actually has an agreement to furnish the course with the books. I tried it a few years back, and found out they didn't. After paying for it, and busting them on it, they then said they would place my ad in a new home buyers guide for a brand new exclusive neighborhood going up. I was like HUH??? Anyways after going round and round with them for a few months, I finally figured up that I had wasted more time with them following up trying to find out where my had was than the $260 I had paid them and chalked it all up the the price of education and moved on.

I'd say you have the best recognition there already, and the golf course book is not going to help.

We have tried this as well. NOT A SINGLE CALL. The rep called us this year to sign us back up and we told him no thanks. He got very rood with the girls in the office and told them when we want to make more money to call him. I could teach this guy a whole lot about sales. Stay away from the golf course adds. My opinion only.

I also tried it many years ago and had the same results as everyone else. I golf also and the last thing I'm thinking about is looking for a service company. I golf to get out of the house and socialize with my buddies and clients. Please take all of our advise and spend that money elsewhere. How about sending out eddm to all the residents around the course. I could see a great ROI using that vs. the golf mag.

I've sponsored many holes at courses for all sorts of my customers charity functions. I got introduced to future prospects.

I get what you guys are saying an have bought the ads in club house. Sponsoring holes during tourneys are great. You have to participate to make it work with the entire event.

I have not sponsored a hole since 2008 , I imagine the economy has a bit to do with the cost of these types of charity functions.
