Wood coming clean.

Has anyone ever had wood that just won't come clean? I Ann currently working on a house that was built with local hardwood trees. The boards are rough sawn. The house has a cost of stain on it that's been on there for 12 to15 years. It was a clear finish. The house will just not come clean.if I was to estimate I would say I have 90 %clean. I used a sodium hydroxide mix to get the Dyson off. Any ideas?

Are you neutralizing the hydroxide after the wash? VERY important step, the hydroxide will darken the wood due to high PH,..not a big deal,..just part of the cleaning,...then neutralize with oxalic acid, 6-8 oz. per gallon.

Also, using sodium percarbonate mixed with hydroxide will help lighten stains.

With that said,..rough, untreated lumber that has aged can be a challenge,..depending on surroundings and what it has sucked in over the years, railroad dirt, etc..

Yes I am neutralizing afterwards. ( I buy the ox fifty pound at a time ) The house is surrounded by trees. It did have 15 y/o clear sealer on it.

When I go back I well be applying my fourth application in some areas. I think he ( the H.O ) might be jumping the gun a little though. Because it is hard wood.I don't believe it was completely dry when he took the pics.
Jeeeez what luck my helper just dropped his stain bucket on the 4 y/o concrete .
