This video shows power washing and restoration companies how to remove the dreaded "overlap" marks, also known as striping or surface cleaner lines.

Overlap marks can come from a variety of means:

Clogged tips
(usually just one), bad tips, just too much pressure altogether, mis-aligned tip, uneven spray bar, going too fast, others.

Clogged tips and bad tips are the #1 reasons in my opinion this happens.
Concrete that is not up to spec happens a lot too. If concrete is weak it's easier to etch. Once in a while your spray bar will not be level because either it's worn, bad bearings, worn tires, not equal psi in the tires, etc.

Here are three ways to fix it:

1)
Make sure tips are good and properly aligned. Pw it in the opposite direction, SLOWLY. Unfortunately this may only work sometimes because concrete may be etched too bad. But, it will look better, only it will leave light etch marks the other way and look like a cross cross. ..may or may not work. You'll have to try and see.

2)
Use a surface cleaner and do SLOW CIRCLES left to right all the way across and then right to left, making sure to overlap at about 50% of the surface cleaner width. This is what this video shows. The technique will work better than the cross-cross and work MOST of the time. If concrete is etched too bad, you will have to go with #3 below.

3) F9 Efflorescence and Calcium Remover by Front 9 Restoration.
This WILL take them out. Use F9 Efflo, spray on at 8:1 and broom surface until the foaming stops. Surface clean using the circle technique on the whole thing. Rinse off.

I find it is multiple reasons. Some time up your machine is not dialed in and one or more of these reasons will cause it.
1. Worn tips in sc or worn seals.
2. Poor flow through gun. Yes the guns on sc's go bad too.
3. Unbalanced spray bar.
4 unloader not set properly
5 pump is not in optimum working condition due to seals or water restriction.
6 machine is old and is not running at required rpm's.

7 it is really shitty concrete.

Thanks Craig. I haven't had an issue with this yet, but I'm going to start using CCT so I don't have one.

Dave take his CCT and turn it into a DCT. Make it your own! LOL Mine is an RCT!

lol. Using "CCT" was a little tongue-in-cheek, but I do appreciate him taking the time to so how to solve a common mistake many of us newbies make, along with some good information on causes. I've always gone side-to-side and haven't noticed a problem, but that's probably because I work rather slowly and make multiple passes. Same thing, I guess.

Craig also has several other videos on his youtube channel that I found useful. I hope one day I have enough experience and knowledge that I can give back like that.

I practiced that technique this morning. It definitely works, just a little time consuming. Thank god I never have ANY lap marks...LOL.

It definitely takes more time to do it, but faced with tearing out and replacing concrete due to etch marks... a little time is worth it. In the last 3 months this technique has possibly saved 2 guys from going out of business. Most of the time it works unless the etching is too far into the concrete. There are ways to take etch marks out, even when Zorro strikes. And it pays good money when it happens.

W have been using this Technic for awhile , Thanks Craig for creating the CookBook F9
