Frequently we find ourselves at $250/hour for night work

Seems to be about the sweet spot for us as well.
However, the very first commercial jobs we did at well below our present rates.
It gave us a chance to get our toe in the door and learn what it was all about.

Gene, I was going to give you a call the other day until I saw your posst about your father. I didn't want to impose on that situation.
 
If I don't profit at least $150, it isn't worth moving the truck. It's good to know someone is filling in that gap :)

As for the prices, your first interaction is going to set the pace of expectation IF there is any future work. And assuming things will only take you X time, is good in theory but terrible in practice. Wait for the day, a random part you can only find online, breaks.
 
Well I got the job, and underbid it for sure but you live and learn I guess. Took me a little longer than expected but everyone was happy. I'll definitely raise my prices especially the flatwork. Would post pics of while store but I have to have their sign photoshopped out. They said I couldn't show their logo when advertising. I need some better soap for washing metal buildings. Mine works great for wood but seems a little weak on metal or neglected vinyl. Any suggestions? I want to downstream on buildings.

Your price is way to cheap. One thing that you have to take into account, is that as the owner of the business, you need to think about how much it will cost you to send someone else out there to do the work for you, cover gas, insurance, workmans comp, and still make profit? When businesses call to get a Power Washing estimate, they typically understand that it takes money to run a business, charging a $150 and you will go out of business quickly. You need to make the customer understand the value that you are providing them.

-Why is your service worth their dollar? Are you insured? Tell them about your reputation as a business? Are you going to provide your own water? Hot Water?

All of these things are the basic things that you must provide in your bid so that they can see what they are getting. Anyone can wash a sidewalk, but not everyone can wash sidewalk as good as you can, and that is what you have to make the customer understand. Remember, you have to believe that you are the best at what you do and then you will see a positive outcome with your business!

I know this is an older post, but if you think you will drastically increase your prices after your initial price was so cheap your fooling yourself or just in the wishful hoping mode. Not trying to be mean, but no less than $575 one time cleaning which is exactly what it is unless you get a contract. That or if you let them bully you into the same price for all their locations.
