Man with ambition

Also when your ready to make some real money have this guy design your website, the website he made me is my main money maker. Works for me 24/7, when I woke up this morning had a person use the online quote form and all I had to do was email them a price. Got the job without even getting out of bed. Ty is the man!

I second that - Ty is the man!

Gonna be just a little cynical here,..but in a positive,..for your own good kinda way,..Ha,Ha,..

You should be starting with at least 4-5 GPM machine. With 8 GPM being ideal for many. The difference between 2.7 GPM and 4-5 doesn't do the performance curve justice.
Rinsing and shooting distance,..like the peak of a two story is where you'll see the difference once you do go more GPM.

I think the "tools" part of business is the easy part, that way you can put more effort into other aspects of the job. Like learning techniques, cleaners etc...

Also, you'll want a surface cleaner, and 2.7 isn't gonna run one. When flat surface cleaning, more GPM not only cleans better,..but also flows dirt away better.

Trying not to be mean,..just trying to do you a favor.

**Doesn't mean you can't do the work,..but it's gonna be alot more work.

i agree completely, but remember this is not paying my bills, its for side money and ill see if i can make it my single source of income. Meaning i dont NEED to rely on it yet. Also, i should mention that the 2.7 washer is a loaner from a contractor friend till i can get the machine i want. And of course that will be 5+gpm :D

my fault for not specifying

If Ty was anymore awesome I'd have to voluntarily add him to my companies permanent payroll.

Matt, I see you are on first page!! Congrats! Thanks for the compliments btw..

perhaps with that in mind I should stick to just siding, eaves, and perhaps mild roof cases.. I mean ill be soft washing for the most part anyways.

Remember, I didn't recommend a 4-5-8 GPM machine due to better pressure,..I recommended the BIGGER GPM these machines provide, which makes soft washing 100% better over a small machine. And also, roof cleaning isn't done with a pressure washer of any kind. Roof cleaning is done with a dedicated pump and solution tank.

And yes, you can get your feet wet with a small machine,..but keep in mind that you won't get a true feel for this business until you run more GPM.

One other thing,..doing it part time would be a HUGE reason to get more GPM,..you already have enough going on with a regular job,..why start a new endeavor with a handicap.
As I said, tools/equipment is the easy part.

money, i dont want to go into debt starting a business, worst decision i could make. Perhaps in a few months it will make sense to get a 5k machine, my current resources are free.

As far as roof, ive seen many people on this forum do roof work with a pressure washer used with low (relative) pressure. I dont see a reason to buy more equipment when a washer is capable of doing the same job?

ive seen videos of people on this forum soft wash roofs with a pw...

chemicals are chemicals, low pressure is low pressure... I dont see the issue. Im new to pressure washing but common sense is still common sense. Whats so bad about applying your mix with a PW, then rinsing it off with low pressure from the PW.

Generally roofs need a hotter mix then a PW'er can apply.

plenty of people wash roofs with a 200$ delavan 12v pump.... You can wash houses with a 2 GPM power washer you just wont realize how sustainable the business is until you have a commercial size machine that can put out production. No one here is hating on your efforts. Its good to not get too much debt. You will get there.

Fair enough.

Hey Allan,..why do you think we would say you can't clean a roof with a pressure washer properly? What would be the gain for any of us? Your statement about chemical is chemical and low PSI is low PSI shows how ignorant you are in the PW/roof cleaning services. Start reading though, and you'll see how much there there is to learn in a seemingly simple business.

Low PSI from 2.7 isn't near as effective as low PSI from 5+ GPM,..so your common sense that low PSI is all the same is VERY misguided.

Do some research on roof cleaning before telling us your common sense tells you it can be done with a pressure washer.

* You don't need to spend anywhere near $5,000.00 on a washer to have a very capable machine.

Can you post up those videos? Cause I've never seen them and would like to. The "whats so bad about applying your chem with a PW is that, like Jeff Smith, said, you will never get your mix hot enough to clean the roof. Believe me it's been tried many times but does not work. You'll have to have a dedicated chem pump or sprayer that allows you to to mix your solution to the exact strength you need.

Also most guys do not rinse a roof. Some will rinse the bottom 1/4 of a roof, but very few will rinse a whole roof.

You wouldn't catch me on a roof with a powerwasher unless I was washing the chimney. You can't get the mix nearly hot enough ds'ing with a machine.

You don't need 5k for equipment either. Get the $1250 5.5gpm machine and a dedicated roof pump and you're there. Don't think you're going to make it work any other way, it's all been tried before.

Aside from that, a professional setup is part of a professional image.
