So recently I built a website for these guys: http://www.phoenixmoving.company/ and I started charging them for some SEO work. Long story short, I knew the competition for moving companies in Phoenix is super fierce! So honestly, I told them I will try but no guarantees and didn’t expect to rank them at all really. There is a ton of moving companies out here. But I picked up one of those new GTLD domains for them and sure enough I got them to rank pretty decent on Bing and Yahoo fairly quickly. Still not ranking well on Google but it takes more time. I was pretty impressed that I got them to show up at all considering the competition in the area.

Thats when a light went off in my head, that got me thinking, what other businesses are there that I am ignoring because I think the competition is too fierce? Maybe I am passing on some serious money because I am afraid there is too much competition...

First thing that popped into my mind was Carpet Cleaning. I remember when I first was getting into the cleaning biz thinking about Carpets and thought there was too many other companies and prices were too low. So I picked up a Trade Name real quick, called up Red had him do me a quick logo started this site up. It was really an impulsive move more than anything.

Behold - http://www.phoenixcarpet.cleaning/ - Site took me about 4 weeks and I had to pay $500 in stock photos since I don't have any carpet cleaning photos.

Now I am exploring my options of what equipment to pick up or partner up with a carpet cleaning company out here. I got a cheap truck mount I am thinking about. So anyone been in the carpet biz have any thoughts? Never done much interior work myself besides subbing it.

Or for that matter, anyone else have anything to say about carpets? I know I am going to get a lot of "Too Cheap" comments but I did some research and Carpet Cleaning is searched 11x's more than Pressure Washing. So I am thinking its possible I can pick up more work for less price and make it work?!? Take it easy on me! haha

Interested in hearing everyones thoughts....

Thanks in advance.

Nice logo.

I don't do anything carpet wise, but I would like to know where you get your videos? The one on the right has about 45 seconds of dead air.

I know carpet cleaners are a dime a dozen where I live. The first of the year though after it slows down a bit and I get caught up I'm going to be starting a new business. Not carpet cleaning though.

I used to use smaller hot water carpet extractors for auto detailing. Although heat is the way to go, the clients I was dealing with at the time didn't want to pay the money to have it used. Or for some the stain was on there so long, though I removed the majority, they still weren't happy it wasn't "new". Automotive wise I'm back to cold water carpet cleaning, and recommend certain jobs be done with a hot water machine.

I had thought about getting into it around here (home wise), thinking a reclaim vac hose could double as a carpet hose. I could very well be wrong, but seems many people here just like to pay stanley steemer to do a sub par job. If it seems like you can get into the industry in your area and don't mind gaining some knowledge on fabric materials and ways to properly clean them, could be worth looking into.

Site looks great Ty! Carpet Cleaners are everywhere no matter what part of the country but that shouldn't stop you one bit. I know there are a ton in my city but if I was to need some carpet in my house cleaned I don't know who I would call no brands come to mind. But if a company who pressure washed my house or cleaned my windows called or emailed and said they also added on carpet cleaning services for future reference that's probably going to be my first call.

One thing I've learned in this business is... diversifying within the same niche and creating a solid brand (which you do both extremely well) will almost always result in a success. Of course given that you've done your due diligence.

I hope you kill it in the carpet cleaning business!! Keep us posted how you feel it out.

By the way, I called the other day and misty told me to go away :( lol

The key is to never clean dirty carpet!! My dad who was in the carpet business knows a guy that has made millions in profits. Much like Ron, he gets frequent and repetitive commercial contracts. He said his tag line, motto, whatever is we don't clean dirty carpet. Weird but it works for him. I know another guy well that has 10 trucks but does whole apartments for $65 for property management companies. To me it seems he is working himself to death and turning large volume but not much in profits, but he told me 10 trucks and he is pushing 2 million. I see one guy $2ook per truck, he is probably doing okay. Just like any business there is money to be made and different ways to make it, just takes a while to find your niche.

Some of the other fields out there that can use your talents are plumbers, electricians, attorneys, builders, HVAC, painters, tree trimming, landscaping, doctors, dentists and swimming pool cleaning.

Seems like these have more yellow page ads than anything else out there.

Considering we were one of the first major roof cleaning companies in Houston, I learned early that no competition means there's no business to be had. We had to fight for and earn every single customer.

Fierce competition just means there's tons and tons of business to grab, and you only need a small piece to make a lot of money. If you're really good, you can grab a large piece of it and make even more money. We've learned that lesson with our pool company and am slowly learning the lesson again with our lawn service.

In the future, I'll only own business where the competition is high. Hard where the money is.

Great post Scott! Thanks for the information! I agree with that statement as far as power washing goes too. A lot of great companies in Phoenix and there seems to be plenty of work out there still for the taking.

Appreciate the input guys!

Vince, what is your next business? You got me curious...[/QUOTE

I'll PM you Ty, I don't want to post it publicly. If this was under Section 550 I would share though.

I started out cleaning carpet, tile and concrete but have been transitioning to fleet washing over the last few months. Nobody wants to open their doors during winter here to let the hoses in. I can clean more trucks during winter than i can clean carpets.
