Called the city works guy today to ask about restrictions in pressure washing before i start my business. Well he was nice, yet all he did was punch me in the face... According to him, the ONLY way i can run a pressure washer in this state is if its for paint prep, or for safety and health. Any pressure service needed has to be approved by him, meaning every single house, car, driveway, etc.

I dont know what the heck to do really... Other than call the county or state and see if theres some loophole

how are you CALIFORNIA guys running business???

Health and safety and paint prep IS the loophole. Those are the two concessions we got at the state level. Your city can make more restrictive rules. Your best bet during .these 7 more months of restrictions is to try to build a relationship with the guy by showing him your services are beneficial and your methods conserve water.

7 more months?? I wasnt aware of a term of this restriction

I would ask politely to quit stirring the pot. I may or may not have commercial work in the Valley where you are located and have not had any trouble with any city/town officials. I don't go banging on the Police Chiefs door and tell him I'm about to speed down his city streets either.

Trying to be cool, I think I may have read it here on PWI- Its easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for the ok- (Or something like that).

I appreciate your trying to do the right thing, but it may just bring up bigger issues for many of us who work in your neck of the woods nightly.

so i guess in THIS specific town i need to show proof of health concerns...
and i should call all surrounding towns for their input...
If you call the surrounding towns before you have work there you are making undue trouble for yourself and everyone else. Since you have already met the guy in your town you have no option but to work with him. Furthermore you can call the same office, get five different people and five different answers. Your best bet is to search the internet for rules at the surrounding towns, print them out and keep them with you. I see you tried to pm me. I can't keep it from getting full so I don't even try anymore. Contact me at tonyshelton@cox.net

Please take this advise!

California is all screwed up with the water restrictions that are in place. You can call one city and ask them if they have any power washing restrictions in place and they will say "Yes, absolutely no power washing for any reason at all we don't care what's it for" When you call though you don't tell them who you are or what you do or what city you're calling from. You're just a normal citizen asking a question to be nosy is all. Basically all you're doing is taking a survey.

Call the next city over to that city and ask them the same question they say "no restrictions here, power wash whatever you want"

Go figure....only in California.

I couldn't agree more. It's already restrictive in California, no need to bring more attention to the industry imo..

Not calling at all probably been best but I called before I seen this post oops.. anyways I live in modesto just a town away from ripon and they said no pressure washing at all and I kind of disagreed and explained to them about my reclaim equipment and the ability to reclaim filter and reuse my water blah blah blah and why I should be able to. Then I was put on hold for 5 min then they said I have to go by the address number and their allowed watering days. and no pressure washing mondays and nothing between noon an 7pm.so they gave me a break I guess but it wasn't in ink so dont mean squat really. Just figured i would share my experience

The person you talked to doesn't know what they are talking about. http://www.modestogov.com/pwd/utilities/water/conservation/county_restrictions.asp There are city permits. You probably need to take them a brochure and get one And get back to work.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to prohibit agricultural, commercial or industrial use of water or domestic use of water controlled or scheduled by an irrigation authority, or use by schools. (Ord. CS 399 § 1 (part), 1990).

If we don't see rain here soon in California there is going to be a lot of problems for us that haven't even started yet. Even when I'm out washing at night I see people slow down and look to see what I'm doing. People are even are starting to take pictures and not in good way either.
