This is not a money question...

As a business owner, I have had quite a few interesting and fun jobs, that gave a great sense of satisfaction when the job was completed. I sold a government job cleaning 200,000 ft of concrete for 9 cents a square foot, and it wasn't a parking garage. I have to admit, that was cool, and happened 15 years ago.

What I want to know is what is the biggest business rush that you have experienced as a business owner? I don't want to know about the big job that made you bucket loads of money. That is something that is kind of expected. I want to know about the unexpected "This is cool" moment.

I have two, which defies my description, I know.

1. The first time I was leading a crew to do a job in the afternoon, after they had completed their normal work assignment. I had 8 of MY trucks following me in a row, on the way to the job. I have to admit, that was a really cool feeling.

2. Just after we had started our big contract, I decided to rearrange the parking in our yard, to see the best way to park. It was dusk, and as I was walking back to the shop, I saw all the trucks parked, clean and ready to go to work the next day. Seeing them, with the Phoenix sky line in the back ground was definitely a cool experience. Since that time, we have nearly doubled the number of trucks, and it is still cool.

So, what was yours?

Scott You have me thinking for sure, I must Say the Part about the trucks Following you are pretty cool.

Some of the Moments for me are early on ones as well as my Family being involved. My Daughter Selling a 70,000 agreement on her own for the Old man was a moment in Time I was very high on my Life for sure. Proud she's out of Law enforcement graduated now and is working with a Broker who only does 3 million Dollar Deals or more. She was Hired today at a ridiculous Salary. (we celebrate in San Diego NOV 11) She will be working this Job Night & Day to Train as the Right Hand Person for the Firm. I can't Say who it is but Lets Say some of the clients Played in the World Series Last Night. I think the reason this Moment is one for me in my business is I know she would not have gotten the Experience or the Chance without working in my company & the Hard work she Knew what was ahead of her to Make it on her own. TONY Knows she quit Law Enforcement only a Year ago. Finish School in that YEAR all the while Training for the Real-estate Game.

Next in Line Building a Business That has Given me the opportunity to Help others. The Feeling I will never Worry about my future Ever. Now Watching My boys Replicate without the Mistakes I Made. I won't Mention one of the accounts My Boy Sold but Scotts already Made an Offer. LOL

Its really been a Blast the Last 30......the next years at this Point are for fun.

For me, there's a lot. But the ones that stand out the most are:

1: When I left my job to take on my business full time.

2: The first recurring account I landed.

3: The first time I hit 6 figures.

I've got a whole lot, I am grateful for all that I have... But one is head and shoulders above any of the others.

- being able to spend so much time with my wife and son (and never missed a key moment in his nearly 4 years)

- like Chad, hitting 6 figures was nice... Nicer has been consecutive 6 figure growth!!

- pulling up to a gas station with 3 rigs was a nice feeling.

- I am not an aggressive sales person, but closing sales that I have been chasing for 12+ months is a rush!

Great thread Scott!

-First time I picked up my new fleet of trucks was a great moment for me
-One day, not out the ordinary of any other day, but I walked into my office and everyone was working and answering phones and responding to emails and it made me realize how proud I was that it got to that level
-When my employee thanked me for buying his new car! That was a great moment for me because he told me he wouldn't have been able to get it if it wasn't for this job
-The time we cleaned CASS for free was rememberable for me
-And I remember the first lift job being pretty cool! haha

Again, great post! And you should be proud! You have a great fleet there my friend.

Thats awesome. I hope everyone is O.K.

We work out of a storage facility with 6 trucks. All of our guys show up between 730-8am and are always there and leave at different times. I showed up a couple months ago and all 6 techs and trucks were parked in the drive and all of our guys were bustling around filling chemicals, comparing paperwork, etc...never seen all the trucks in action at one time.

Easy........The day I was fired from the Company I had been with for 12 years. Because of Department Politics (and the fact they didn't like seeing me building a business while working for them) they made up an excuse to fire me....Well they had me up in HR and the woman there was trying to figure out a way of explaining "Why" they were firing me after 12 years of employment with never being written up.....I looked at her and said.....Ma'am it's ok, lets just get on with it, tell me whatever makes you feel good because I've got work to do.....gave her my business card and told her to give me a call if she ever needed our services.................That was 4 years ago......It's Been A Rush Ever Since.

Ten years ago I started as a one man window cleaner, so the first time my wife called and said she deposited over $1,000 in checks. That was a day we both remember kind of nostalgically.

I guess us owners like our trucks, just a few weeks back my 2 lettered vans were following me in the newest member of the fleet a 1991 500 gal 2 unit F450 flatbed to a job perfectly spaces down the highway. That was a cool feeling.

My wife and I have season tickets to the theater and gave to the restoration of the theater which has our names on the seats . 2nd row center . 4 or 5 of my clients are behind us and want to know who I know ?

It's always a good feeling walking to the seats !

First cedar house restoration , first condo complex, first estate cleaning . Solving lawsuit issues . Stopping a law suit . Showing up solving problems no one else could solve .

I'm still mostly a 1 man operation. There are people in my life who are incredible and help me out from time to time and I see expansion on next years horizon. I grew up poor(ramen was a treat). So for me the bar of totally fucking awesome was defined easily...anything more than I had. So there's a little background for you and with that in mind:

When I showed up to my first wrapped van, with this logo and idea that had been formulating for months, just setting there staring back at me.
When the realization came that something from my mind had been manifested into the physical world.
Every day I am on my way home from the days work and I remember that something I made from the ground up is feeding me a real dinner tonight.
When a customer invited me to have some free flying lessons and hang out with his pilot buddies for breakfast, as a tip for the work.
When some friends and I took a trip to New York on flights that were paid for by work I had done, these had been amazing friends all my life and it was a real treat to get to return something to them.

And yeah the first lift job, that was a rush...I had never used one, never even rented a tool and it all just came together.

I like the simple things,..being able to give a service away here and there is kinda' refreshing for me and the customer,..

Examples;

I've done numerous free sidewalk and other concrete cleaning while on the job for a house wash or roof cleaning,..also gutter clean outs have been done free of charge.
Have done work for a local Church and didn't charge,...maybe I'm hoping for some consideration when "That time" comes,..Ha,Ha,...

I've done free house washes for people who have gone above and beyond to get me work,..such as their neighborhood or friends or their place of employment,...or a hangout like a country club.

Just feels good to be able to give something away and not feel it,..aside from it feeling really good!

Jeff

^ On that note, of of my proudest moments was donating the work to Cleaning for hero's.

Is that still going on?

For sure!! That contract I spoke to you about dropping... Dropped it, on the verge of closing on another that is 1/10th of the labor per month... And ~60% profit margin versus ~30% on the dropped contract.

That stuff is a rush!!

I think that many of us have been significantly blessed by what we do for a living, and enjoy hearing the moments that others have had, that a monetary value cannot be put on.
