Fleet Washing Question, waxing

Those of you who wash fleets, small or large accounts... If the account wants the vehicles buffed and waxed every 2-3 months (on top of a bi weekly wash) do you do it yourselves, or outsource it?

I only have 3 fleet accounts, and I am bidding on a fourth and they are the first to request this.

I would entertain every business opportunity. I get asked about a multitude of tasks some of which i tackle and some of which i pass or sub out..

But i look at everything

# 1 -Can you or your guys do it?

# 2- find out what there expectations are- Pristine finish? or a quick buff that will generate a nice shine?..Makes a big difference

# 3- when you have the answer to #2, figure out your labor/materials and price accordingly

You may or may not find when you come up with #3- its not worth it

Just my opinion

I greatly appreciate the advice... Fortunately they are looking for quick buffing, they are simply getting their fleet cleaned to avoid DOT pull overs. Nothing pristine. Considering it's only 4 times a year I will give it a shot.

Thanks again

Buffing a truck, if it is maintained, can be done pretty easily in about 2.5 man hours. I know that I had two guys with paste wax that did twenty in about 10 hours, but they were nuts, and may, or may not, have done the best job, but did do what I needed done.

Makes me think about spreading my detailing to these big rigs. Are we talking cab and trailer here, or just cab alone, and painted surfaces only? I'm just curious of how some price it out, I wouldn't know where to start with a rig.

Johnnyb, this client was actually referred to me by a mobile detailer... They simply were not equipped to wash these rigs, they get fairly dirty. That is not to say they couldn't handle the waxing. The waxing only includes painted surfaces on the cab. They are daycabs.

Thanks Ted and Scott!

I was thinking sleepers. Day cabs are REALLY fast. I could probable do one by myself in an hour for a wax, two for a buff and wax.

If you want to really wow them, clean the frame really good and paint them gloss black. Of course, if the frame is white, that might not be the best idea.

Good to know, thanks for the info all. I'm setup for passenger vehicles, but this is good to know if I decide to broaden the services.
